Our intraoperative model for the estimation of rotator cuff repair tension showed an inverse correlation of repair tension with healing at the repair site, suggesting that complete healing is less likely with high-tension repairs. A significant association was observed on MRI between a high level of FD of the infraspinatus and repaired tendon integrity.
Despite having similar postoperative analgesic effects as other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and opioids, selective COX-2 inhibitors should not be used for postoperative analgesia because they might negatively affect tendon-to-bone healing after surgical repair. Osteolysis and cyst formation are common complications following the use of bioabsorbable anchors in rotator cuff repairs. Considering that adequate absorption of anchors and preservation of bone stock are the reasons for using bioabsorbable anchors, use of these anchors should be reconsidered because of possible interference with revision surgery.
The data demonstrate favorable outcomes for arthroscopic superior labral anterior and posterior lesion repair using the trans-rotator cuff portal. We suggest that the trans-rotator cuff portal is an efficient and safe portal for superior labral anterior and posterior lesion repair, although there are some valid concerns of damaging the cuff in patients with a superior labral anterior and posterior lesion with concurrent cuff disorders, as well as in older patients.
New-generation biodegradable suture anchors seem to decrease the severity of perianchor cyst formation. Future research is required to optimize the compositions and proportions of osteoconductive materials and polymers to improve adverse reactions. Nevertheless, controlling the properties of polymers and adding osteoconductive material both appear to enhance biocompatibility.
There was no difference between home-based exercise using a smartphone application and a conventional self-exercise program for the treatment of frozen shoulder in terms of visual analogue scale for pain and range of motions.
The prevalence of proximal vertebral artery stenosis was highest, compared with those of the distal vertebral/basilar artery and internal carotid artery, although the clinical significance of proximal vertebral artery stenosis should be investigated in further studies.
