주요 논문
15An understanding of plant biology is essential to solving many long-standing global challenges, including sustainable and secure food production and the generation of renewable fuel sources. Nanosensor platforms, sensors with a characteristic dimension that is nanometer in scale, have emerged as important tools for monitoring plant signaling pathways and metabolism that are nondestructive, minimally invasive, and capable of real-time analysis. This review outlines the recent advances in nanotech
The engineering of living plants for visible light emission and sustainable illumination is compelling because plants possess independent energy generation and storage mechanisms and autonomous self-repair. Herein, we demonstrate a plant nanobionic approach that enables exceptional luminosity and lifetime utilizing four chemically interacting nanoparticles, including firefly luciferase conjugated silica (SNP-Luc), d-luciferin releasing poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA-LH2), coenzym
Graphene oxide (GO) is an emerging luminescent nanomaterial with photostable and unique photoluminescence (PL) in the visible and near‐infrared region. Herein, a GO PL‐based optical biosensor consisting of a luminescent GO donor covalently linked with a peptide‐quencher complex is reported for the simple, rapid, and sensitive detection of proteases. To this end, the quenching efficiency of various candidate quenchers of GO fluorescence, such as metalloprotoporphyrins and QXL 570 , are examined a
In recent years, generative machine learning approaches have attracted significant attention as an enabling approach for designing novel molecular materials with minimal design bias and thereby realizing more directed design for a specific materials property space. Further, data-driven approaches have emerged as a new tool to accelerate the development of novel organic electronic materials for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) applications. We demonstrate and validate a goal-directed generativ
Plants accumulate solid carbon mass and self-repair using atmospheric CO2 fixation from photosynthesis. Synthetic materials capable of mimicking this property can significantly reduce the energy needed to transport and repair construction materials. Here, a gel matrix containing aminopropyl methacrylamide (APMA), glucose oxidase (GOx), and nanoceria-stabilized extracted chloroplasts that is able to grow, strengthen, and self-repair using carbon fixation is demonstrated. Glucose produc
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are promising candidates for the controllable design of electrocatalysts. However, bifunctional electrocatalytic activities for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) remain challenging in COFs. In this study, imidazolium-rich COFs (IMCOFs) with well-defined active sites and characteristic three-dimensional assembly structures were readily prepared, and their electronic structures were tuned by Co incorporation to elicit bifunct
Antioxidants have become an important subject of study as an active ingredient for cosmetics and preservatives for food. We synthesized antioxidative peptide conjugates of hydroxycinnamic acids (HCAs) such as ferulic acid (FA), caffeic acid (CA), and sinapic acid (SA) by SPPS method. We measured their potential antioxidant properties by 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) scavenging test and lipid autoxidation inhibition test. When the antioxidative peptides, such as glutathione analog
A new, accelerated design scheme for photoinitiators based on an advanced machine learning framework is studied. Design space for photoinitiators is set by over 120 unique oxime ester compounds synthesized and measured for their photosensitivity. Then, an automated machine learning algorithm is used for rapidly identifying the best quantitative structure–property relationship (QSPR) models among hundreds that are generated, ranked, and validated in an automated fashion to predict photosensitivit
Tyrosinase plays a critical role in the early stages of the melanin synthetic pathway by catalyzing the oxidation of the substrate. Therefore, tyrosinase inhibitors have been intensively studied in both cosmetic and food industries to develop hypopigmentary agents and prevent enzymatic browning in food. Previously, we reported that kojic acid-amino acid amide (KA-AA-NH(2)) showed enhanced tyrosinase inhibitory activity compared with kojic acid alone, but this was not observed in a cell test beca
Plants communicate through volatile organic compounds (VOCs), but real-time monitoring of VOCs for plant intercommunication is not practically possible yet. A nanobionic VOC sensor plant is created to study VOC-mediated plant intercommunication by incorporating surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) nanosensors into a living plant. This sensor allows real-time monitoring of VOC with a sensitivity down to the parts per trillion level. A quantitative VOC diffusion model in plants is proposed to
We examine the role of quantum confinement on carbon doped ZnO nanocrystals and nanowires using first-principles real-space pseudopotential method. For these nanocrystals, we find carbon dopants become magnetic under confinement. Moreover, by examining dopant-dopant interactions in ZnO nanowires, we find the ferromagnetic exchange interactions to be strongly enhanced at the nanoscale. Our work offers strong theoretical evidence for nanoscale induced magnetism and direct exchange coupling interac
