研究室紹介
Professor Ah Young Oh's research lab specializes in pediatric and cardiac anesthesiology, with a focus on optimizing anesthetic techniques for neonatal and pediatric patients undergoing complex cardiac and spinal surgeries. The lab investigates hemodynamic stability, airway management challenges such as tracheomalacia, and the neuroprotective effects of various anesthetic agents like sevoflurane, remimazolam, and propofol. Key research directions include improving postoperative recovery, minimizing hemodynamic fluctuations, and validating psychological assessment tools for pediatric preoperative anxiety.

15We experienced an unexpected tracheomalacia exhibiting CO2 retention and an increased peak inspiratory pressure after beginning an operation; it was confirmed with fiberoptic bronchoscopy. If there are no problems in the circuit or tube when the patient shows CO2 retention and increases in peak inspiratory pressure, the fiberoptic bronchoscope is helpful
The use of sevoflurane in maintaining anesthesia during INR was associated with faster recovery, less patient movement during the procedure, and a more stable hemodynamic response when compared to propofol.
Tracheomalacia results in narrowing of the tracheal lumen during increased intrathoracic pressure caused by a thin tracheal wall. Symptomatic tracheomalacia is known to cause airway obstruction during general anesthesia (1). However, there are few reports showing these respiratory difficulties. We report an unexpected tracheomalacia exhibiting CO2 retention and an increased peak inspiratory pressure after the beginning of the operation; it was confirmed with fiberoptic bronchoscopy. OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to demonstrate that unilateral brain regional perfusion during congenital aortic arch anomaly surgery is neurologically safe. METHODS: Fifteen patients who were diagnosed with congenital aortic arch anomaly between June 2004 and May 2006 were enrolled in this study. The mean age and body weight of the enrolled patients were 40.3+/-35.9 days and 3.7+/-1.0 kg, respectively. Underlying diseases included coarctation of the aorta (12) and an interrupted aortic arch
BACKGROUND: Maintenance of stable blood pressure (BP) during cerebrovascular bypass surgery is crucial to prevent cerebral ischemia. We compared the effect of remimazolam anesthesia with that of propofol-induced and desflurane-maintained anesthesia on intraoperative hemodynamic stability and the need for vasoactive agents in patients undergoing cerebrovascular bypass surgery. METHODS: Sixty-five patients were randomized into remimazolam (n = 31, remimazolam-based intravenous anesthesia) and cont
Purpose: The modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale (mYPAS) was developed for evaluating the level of preoperative anxiety in children. The purpose of this study was to develop a Korean version of the mYPAS (K-mYPAS) and to establish its validity and reliability based on the Korean preoperative pediatric patients. Methods: K-mYPAS was made through stringent back-translation procedure. Total enrolled 102 patients answered questionnaires of Korean version of State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Chi
Remifentanil 0.20 ± 0.05 µg/kg with propofol 1 mg/kg resulted in excellent LMA insertion in 50% of elderly patients without significant hemodynamic changes during emergency airway management.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disease caused by the degeneration of upper and lower motor neurons. The disorder causes muscle weakness and atrophy throughout the body. There is an unexpected response to depolarizing or nondepolarizing muscle relaxants, and risk of perioperative respiratory failure is high. Careful monitoring and minimal doses of anesthetics are needed. We report a case of general anesthesia in a patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. We used proper do
BACKGROUND: Deep neuromuscular blockade (NMB) optimizes surgical conditions, particularly during laparoscopic procedures. However, its effects on systemic cytokines associated with anesthesia-related complications, including postoperative delirium and cognitive dysfunction, remain unclear. In this review, we quantified the impact of deep NMB on serum cytokine levels. METHODS: PubMed, EMBASE, CENTRAL, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases were searched to identify randomize
