Professor An-Hee Yoo's research lab focuses on the neurobiological mechanisms underlying stress-related disorders, with a particular emphasis on the long-term impact of prenatal stress on offspring brain development and behavior. The lab investigates how environmental stressors during pregnancy affect hippocampal neurogenesis, serotonin system regulation, and anxiety-like behaviors in rodent models. Current research also explores the neuroprotective and behavioral benefits of interventions such as treadmill exercise in mitigating these adverse outcomes. The lab integrates behavioral neuroscience with molecular and histological techniques to understand the neural basis of anxiety and resilience.

1Purpose: Stress during pregnancy is a risk factor for the development of anxiety-related disorders in offspring later in life. The effects of treadmill exercise on anxiety-like behaviors and hippocampal cell proliferation were investigated using rats exposed to prenatal stress. Methods: Exposure of pregnant rats to a hunting dog in an enclosed room was used to induce stress. Anxiety-like behaviors of offspring were evaluated using the elevated plus maze test. Immunohistochemistry for the detecti
