Professor Aram Han's research lab focuses on clinical and translational research in infectious diseases and oncology, with a strong emphasis on HIV management, cancer surgery, and medication adherence in transplant and chronic disease populations. The lab investigates regional disparities in HIV-related malignancies such as Kaposi sarcoma, explores innovative digital health tools to improve treatment adherence, and examines complex surgical approaches like oncovascular surgery for advanced cancers. Additionally, the lab conducts pharmacokinetic and adherence studies in transplant recipients to optimize immunosuppressive therapy. These efforts reflect a multidisciplinary approach integrating epidemiology, clinical pharmacology, and surgical oncology.

This study analyzed the association between medication adherence and the intrapatient variability (IPV) of tacrolimus concentrations among kidney transplant recipients through a post hoc analysis of the dataset from a recently conducted randomized controlled trial. The identification rate of SLNB and the accuracy of intraoperative frozen section examination after NAC are comparable to the results without NAC in patients with early breast cancer. However considering the high false negative rates, general application of SLNB after NAC should be avoided. Patients with progesterone-positive tumors and non-triple-negative breast cancers may be a select group of patients in whom SLNB can be employed safely after NAC, but further studies are necessary.

Horseshoe kidney (HSK) is the most common congenital abnormality of the urologic system encountered during abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) surgery. Here, the authors report a case of AAA coexisting with HSK that was successfully treated by open surgery. Two accessory renal arteries of 2.5 mm and 3.1 mm were reimplanted.
