Professor Beom Seok Kim's research lab focuses on translational oncology and neuroimmunology, with a strong emphasis on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer progression and host immune responses in neurological and head and neck cancers. The lab investigates novel therapeutic strategies, including natural compounds like shikonin and cancer vaccines such as GV1001, to target key signaling pathways in tumor cells and modulate the tumor microenvironment. They also explore the role of innate immune receptors like TLRs in neuroinflammatory diseases such as Japanese encephalitis, highlighting the intersection of immunology and neurology. Their work spans in vitro, in vivo, and clinical translational studies, aiming to improve patient outcomes through precision medicine approaches.

15Japanese encephalitis (JE) is major emerging neurologic disease caused by JE virus. To date, the impact of TLR molecules on JE progression has not been addressed. GV1001, a 16-amino acid fragment of the human telomerase reverse transcriptase catalytic subunit (hTERT), has been developed as an injectable formulation of cancer vaccine.
