研究室紹介

Professor Beomsoo Kim's research lab specializes in translational biomedical research with a focus on stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, and clinical diagnostics. The lab investigates the impact of physiological oxygen conditions on stem cell function, particularly in human mesenchymal stem cells, to better understand their behavior in vivo. Additionally, the lab explores clinical applications through dermatological imaging, such as dermoscopy for distinguishing psoriasis and seborrhoeic dermatitis, and nuclear medicine techniques like FDG-PET/CT for identifying metabolic abnormalities in splenic uptake and thyroid cancer. The integration of molecular, imaging, and clinical data defines the lab’s multidisciplinary approach to improving diagnostic accuracy and therapeutic outcomes.

Atmospheric ( in vitro ) oxygen pressure is around 150 mm Hg (20% O 2 ), whereas physiologic ( in vivo ) oxygen pressure ranges between 5 and 50 mm Hg (0.7–7% O 2 ). The normoxic environment in cell culture does not refer to a physiological stem cell niche. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of oxygen concentration on cell properties of human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). We analyzed cell proliferation rate, senescence, immunophenotype, stemness gene expression and differentiati

Dermoscopy can be useful in differentiating scalp psoriasis from seborrhoeic dermatitis

SJR Q1British Journal of Dermatology

BACKGROUND: Psoriasis and seborrhoeic dermatitis are common erythematous-squamous dermatoses that may present with scaly erythematous patches on the scalp. Owing to the similar clinicopathological features of these dermatoses, their differentiation poses a diagnostic challenge, particularly when the lesions on the scalp are isolated. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the usefulness of dermoscopy in the clinical differentiation of scalp psoriasis and seborrhoeic dermatitis. METHODS: This was a retrospectiv

Abstract A new type of polyester polyol, with alkyl side groups, viz. poly(2,4‐diethyl‐1,5‐pentamethylene adipate) glycol (PDPAd) was synthesized and used to improve the hydrolytic stability of waterborne polyurethanes (PU). The results compared favorably with poly(tetramethylene adipate) glycol (PTAd)–based PU and blends of the two types of PU in terms of particle size, thermal, XRD, mechanical, dynamic mechanical, and swell behavior of the dispersion cast films in addition to hydrolytic stabil

BACKGROUND: Neurologic complications (NC) after liver transplantation are not uncommon, with serious complications such as central pontine myelinolysis (CPM), often causing disability. OBJECTIVE: We investigated the incidence and features of NC following liver transplantation in adult recipients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 319 adult patients who underwent liver transplantation between January 2004 and May 2005 at the Asan Medical Center. RESULTS: Neu

BACKGROUND: The role for pre-thyroidectomy (pre-Tx) imaging with F-18 flurodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET), FDG PET-computed tomography (CT), in differentiated thyroid cancer is controversial as is the significance of positive and negative FDG uptake in this setting. We reviewed the records of patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) who had pre-Tx FDG PET-CT to determine whether FDG uptake was associated with features noted on pre-Tx ultrasonography (US) and paramet
