Professor Bong Ju Moon's research lab specializes in spinal surgery and spinal deformity, with a primary focus on osteoporotic spine surgery, degenerative spinal diseases, and cervical spine pathology. The lab investigates innovative spinal fixation techniques—particularly polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) augmentation of pedicle screws—and evaluates their clinical and radiological outcomes in elderly and osteoporotic patients. Additional research directions include the biomechanical and clinical aspects of lumbar spinal stenosis, cervical kyphosis, and sagittal spinopelvic alignment in neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson’s disease. The lab also explores minimally invasive spinal interventions, including epidural neuroplasty and endoscopic laser decompression, for lumbar disc herniation.

15The results show favorable outcome both clinically and radiographically for 37 patients who underwent lumbar fusion using DTPS and PMMA. Based on the results, the use of this surgical method can be a safe and effective option for the operation on the osteoporotic spine.
