Professor Byung-Il Jang's research lab specializes in sustainable innovation and policy analysis, focusing on environmental technology startups and their role in achieving carbon neutrality. The lab investigates structural challenges faced by green tech ventures—such as high capital intensity, long commercialization timelines, and stringent regulatory hurdles—and develops evidence-based policy frameworks to support their growth. Research emphasizes the design of integrated, stage-gated support systems that bridge public funding, market validation, and private investment. The lab also conducts stakeholder-oriented analyses to align policy priorities across entrepreneurs, government agencies, and industry investors.

1기후 위기가 심화되고 탄소중립이 글로벌 경제의 핵심 의제로 자리 잡은 현시점에서, 본 연구는 이를 실현할 핵심 기술 주체인 환경기술 스타트업을 육성하기 위한 정책적 우선순위를 규명하고자 한다. 특히 자본집약적 특성과 장기적인 상용화 기간, 까다로운 규제·인증 검증 등 환경기술 스타트업이 겪는 구조적 제약 요인을 고려하여, 지원정책의 상대적 중요도를 도출하고 이해관계자 집단 간의 인식차이를 심층적으로 분석하였다. 이를 위해 문헌 연구와 전문가 자문을 거쳐 6개 정책 영역과 20개 세부수단으로 구성된 AHP 계층 구조를 설계하였으며, 창업자, 정책·지원기관, 산업계(AC/VC)를 대상으로설문을 수행하였다. 분석 결과, 전체적으로는‘자금 지원 및 조달’이 가장 시급한 정책 영역으로 확인되었으며, 세부 수단 중에서는 정부 보조금, 시장 진입 기회, 기술 투자 유치가 최상위 우선순위를 차지하였다. 또한, 정책 수요자와 공급자 등 주요 이해관계자 집단 간 정책 우선순위에 대한 뚜렷한 인식차이가
