研究室紹介

Professor Byung Ki Kim's research lab specializes in gynecological oncology, focusing on the molecular mechanisms underlying epithelial ovarian and cervical cancers. The lab investigates tumor suppressor genes such as BRD7 and oncogenic pathways involving proteins like FGFR and SK1 to identify novel therapeutic targets. Key research directions include evaluating the efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy, exploring radiation resistance mechanisms, and developing targeted therapies using siRNA and small molecule inhibitors. The lab also emphasizes translational research, integrating in vitro, in vivo, and clinical data to improve patient outcomes.

AIM: This study was performed to evaluate the efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) with paclitaxel and cisplatin in patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer who were inadequate for primary optimal surgery. METHODS: Patients with histologically confirmed epithelial ovarian cancer at International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stages IIIc/IV that was unresectable according to computed tomography findings were eligible for this study. Three cycles of paclitaxel plus cisplati

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to compare the oncologic and reproductive outcomes of patients with borderline ovarian tumours (BOTs) who were treated with cystectomy or unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (USO). METHODS: The medical records of patients with BOTs who were treated between 1997 and 2009 were reviewed retrospectively. The recurrence rates were compared between the USO and cystectomy groups. The reproductive outcomes were assessed by telephone interviews. RESULTS: Patients with B

PURPOSE: Bromodomain-containing protein 7 (BRD7), which is a subunit of SWI/SNF complex, has been recently suggested as a novel tumor suppressor in several cancers. In this study, we investigated the tumor suppressive effect of BRD7 in epithelial ovarian cancer. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: We analyzed the expression of BRD7 in human ovarian tissues with real-time PCR. To investigate the functional role of BRD7, we transfected ovarian cancer cells (A2780 and SKOV3) with BRD7 plasmid and checked the cell

To search for a marker that predicts the efficacy of radiation therapy in human cervical cancer, gene expression profiles between parental SiHa cervical cancer cells and radiation-resistant SiHa/R cells have been compared by the microarray technique. Microarray and Northern blot analyses demonstrated that the ICAM-3 expression was upregulated in SiHa/R cells. This increased expression of ICAM-3 in SiHa cells enhanced cell survival by about 34.3% after a 2 Gy dosage of radiation. In addition, SiH
