Professor Byung-Hyun Park's research lab focuses on molecular mechanisms underlying metabolic diseases, inflammation, and cancer, with a particular emphasis on the roles of sirtuins (especially Sirt6), redox signaling, and calcium homeostasis in disease progression. The lab investigates how dysregulation of these pathways contributes to insulin resistance, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and cancer cell death, using genetically modified mouse models and in vitro cell systems. Key research directions include the anti-inflammatory and metabolic functions of Sirt6 in macrophages and hepatocytes, and the induction of apoptosis by natural compounds and bacterial toxins through caspase-dependent and oxidative stress pathways. The lab also explores therapeutic strategies targeting transcription factors like NF-κB and endogenous inhibitors such as A20 in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
