研究室紹介

Professor Chae-yeun Park's research lab focuses on environmental health and climate change impacts, with a strong emphasis on air pollution, fire emissions, and their effects on human health and ecosystems. The lab investigates the health burdens of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) from biomass and deforestation fires, as well as the role of socioeconomic and climatic factors in shaping future fire regimes. It also explores adaptation strategies for urban heat stress and the vulnerability of renewable energy infrastructure—such as photovoltaic power stations—to climate-induced hazards like landslides. The lab integrates environmental modeling, remote sensing, and public health analysis to support climate-resilient policy and planning.

AIMS: The aim of this study was to investigate whether increased apolipoprotein B/apolipoprotein A-I ratio is associated with Type 2 diabetes mellitus independent of other risk factors for Type 2 diabetes. METHODS: A total of 70,063 subjects (41,391 men and 28,672 women; mean age 41.5 years) who visited the Health Screening Center at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital for a routine medical check-up between January 2009 and December 2009 were enrolled in this study. RESULTS: The mean apolipoprotein B/apoli

SJR Q1Global Environmental ChangeOA

Fires and their associated carbon and air pollutant emissions have a broad range of environmental and societal impacts, including negative effects on human health, damage to terrestrial ecosystems, and indirect effects that promote climate change. Previous studies investigated future carbon emissions from the perspective of response to climate change and population growth, but the compound effects of other factors like economic development and land use change are not yet well known. We explored

Landslide susceptibility analysis of photovoltaic power stations in Gangwon-do, Republic of Korea

SJR Q1Geomatics Natural Hazards and RiskOA

In the Republic of Korea (ROK), photovoltaic power stations (PPSs) are typically installed in mountainous areas because of the low levelized cost of electricity values. However, intensified precipitation due to climate change has increased landslide occurrence, threatening PPSs installed in mountainous areas. Previous studies have focussed on the possibility of landslide occurrence considering specific years, which could not generate general landslide susceptibility areas (LSAs). Therefore, this

How Will Deforestation and Vegetation Degradation Affect Global Fire Activity?

SJR Q1Earth s FutureOA

Abstract Globally, many parts of fire emissions are driven by deforestation. However, few studies have attempted to evaluate deforestation and vegetation degradation fires (DDF) and predict how they will change in the future. In this study, we expanded a fire model used in the Community Land Model to reflect the diverse causes of DDF. This enabled us to differentiate DDFs by cause (climate change, wood harvesting, and cropland, pastureland, and urban land‐use changes) and seasonality. We then pr

The Effects of Extreme Heat Adaptation Strategies under Different Climate Change Mitigation Scenarios in Seoul, Korea
Chae Yeon Park, Dong Kun Lee, Jung Hee Hyun
SJR Q1SustainabilityOA

The impacts of extreme heat in Seoul, Korea, are expected to increase in frequency and magnitude in response to global warming, necessitating certain adaptation strategies. However, there is a lack of knowledge of adaptation strategies that would be able to reduce the impacts of extreme heat to cope with an uncertain future, especially on the local scale. In this study, we aimed to determine the effect of adaptation strategies to reduce the mortality risk under two climate change mitigation scen

SJR Q1Environmental Research LettersOA

Abstract Fire emits hazardous air pollutants, the most dominant of which is fine particulate matter of diameter ⩽2.5 μ m (PM 2.5 ). PM 2.5 is a great concern due to its adverse effects on public health. Previous studies have examined the health burden from fire-related PM 2.5 for the historical period; however, future global mortality associated with fire-PM 2.5 , particularly under the coexisting impacts of climate and socioeconomic changes, is yet to be projected. Here, we estimated the mortal
