研究室紹介
Professor Chang-Geon Han's research lab focuses on asset-based social policies, financial inclusion, and the longitudinal impacts of economic resources on individual and family well-being. The lab investigates how policies such as Individual Development Accounts (IDAs), wealth accumulation, and asset ownership influence financial stability, family functioning, and psychological outcomes like self-esteem and marital satisfaction across the life course. Research spans diverse populations in Asia, particularly in Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan, with a strong emphasis on equity, inclusiveness, and the dynamic interplay between economic resources and social outcomes.

Using a longitudinal experimental research design, the study tests whether the experiment affects accumulation in five types of assets: liquid assets, other financial assets, total financial assets, real assets, and total assets. Results show that the experimental and control groups do not differ to a statistically si
By combining stakeholder theory and activity theory, this study examines the dynamic relationships among wealth, volunteering, and self-esteem of older adults. This study uses latent growth curve modeling (LGCM) to capture the longitudinal patterns of self-esteem across four waves of data from the Americans’ Changing Lives (ACL) Study. As time-varying variables, the longitudinal trajectories of volunteering hours and self-esteem are analyzed. As time-invariant independent variables, the authors

Using longitudinal data collected at the Tulsa Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) program, this study aims to examine to what degree unemployment and accompanying financial hardship are associated with savings in Individual Development Accounts. Of 328 participants in the IDA program, 89 (27%) participants experienced unemployment during the 4-year demonstration period. Participants who experienced unemployment during the demonstration period were more likely to perceive financial hardship.
Abstract Asian countries have implemented inclusive asset-based policies. Using a theoretical framework, this study evaluates the extent to which the asset-based policies in Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan are inclusive. The framework of ‘inclusiveness’ of asset-based policy has four components such as universal, progressive, life-long, and adequate. The study found that, compared to asset-based policies in Korea and Taiwan, those in Singapore have strengths in universality and life-long feature. H
AbstractAssets have the potential to influence marital happiness and satisfaction. Using the two waves of the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women & Families (KLoWF), this study examines the extent to which assets, debts (negative assets) and their changes are related to a wife's marital happiness and relation satisfaction with her husband, controlling for the socio-economic characteristics of the wife. This study found that financial assets, real assets and their changes have significant associa

This study explores psychosocial factors related to the use of home modification among older adults with disabilities and their caregivers in Korea. Using in-depth interviews, this study elaborates specific socio-cognitive factors leading to home modification from the multiple perspectives of care recipients, family caregivers and home care helpers. The study findings are theoretically organised into four domains: structural factors, care recipients’ service needs, socio-cognitive factors, and e
This study explores how Malay older husbands giving care to their wives in Singapore respond to these roles through coping strategies and social support. This study uses in-depth interviews with five Malay older husbands whose wives are homebound because of dementia and kidney problems. However, all the participants report that they do not take time off from their caregiving roles because they have no other immediate sourc
Abstract This exploratory study aimed to identify the extent to which a nationwide cash transfer programme, The Straits Times' School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF), was associated with the education performance of children from low-income families in Singapore. Data were collected from 400 pairs of parents and children of SPMF, 172 school reports, and 35 in-depth interviews. Descriptive and correlation analyses were run. We found that SPMF may be a supporting factor in helping children stay in school
