Professor Chang Hwa Lee's research lab specializes in pharmacogenomics and clinical pharmacology, with a focus on identifying genetic markers associated with drug-induced adverse reactions, particularly severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) such as those induced by allopurinol. The lab investigates the role of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) alleles in ethnic-specific drug responses and explores the interplay between metabolic factors—like lipid and sodium metabolism—and chronic disease risks, including hypertension, osteoporosis, and renal dysfunction. Their work integrates population-based epidemiological studies with molecular genetics to improve personalized medicine and drug safety.
