Professor Chang-Hwan Kim's research lab focuses on the immunological crosstalk between host immunity and microbial metabolites, with a central emphasis on how microbial-derived signals—particularly short-chain fatty acids and other metabolites—regulate T cell differentiation, function, and homeostasis. The lab investigates the roles of chemokine receptors and their ligands in directing T cell migration, polarization, and localization within lymphoid tissues, especially in germinal centers and during immune responses. A key direction involves identifying molecular markers and signaling pathways that define specialized T helper subsets, such as germinal center T follicular helper cells and type 1 T cells, and understanding their functional specialization in immunity and tolerance. The lab also explores how microbial metabolites engage host receptors (e.g., GPRs, AhR, FXR) to modulate immune cell behavior in health and disease.

15BACKGROUND: Physical activity greatly affects human physical and mental health. This study investigated the effect of college students' physical activity levels on depression and personal relationships. METHODS: Participants were 525 college students from five Korean cities. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire, Beck's Depression Inventory, and Leary's interpersonal orientation paper test measured physical activity volume, depression, and interpersonal relationships, respectively. D
Sport center managers are likely to maximize member satisfaction by developing products or services that are tailored to the different groups of sport center members. A necessary step, then, is to identify different segments of sport center members. This study attempts to identify sport center segments in Seoul, Korea, as determined by the members' attitudes toward 33 service items. A 2-stage cluster analysis approach in which the Ward's minimum variance method is used at the first stage and the
AIMS: Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is associated with morbidity and mortality, comprising a significant percentage of amputations. As it affects the quality of life of patients with PAD, it is an important health issue. Therefore, the risk factors affecting the outcomes of limb salvage after revascularization should be well investigated. The aim of this review is to summarize risk factors of amputation-free survival (AFS) after interventions targeting patients with PAD to develop evidence-b
Patients with end-stage liver disease undergo repetitive patterns of recovery and deterioration and are burdened with uncertainty. Although quality of life is low in patients with end-stage liver disease and their family members, few studies have been conducted to identify what palliative care should be provided for them. This integrative review aimed to explore palliative care for patients with end-stage liver disease, focusing on the components and outcome measurements for further research. Af
BACKGROUND: Based on a previous study on the feasibility of TomoEQA, an exit detector-based patient-specific pre-treatment quality assurance (QA) method for helical tomotherapy, an in-depth clinical evaluation was conducted. METHODS: Data of one hundred patients were analyzed to evaluate the clinical usefulness of TomoEQA for patient-specific pre-treatment QA in comparison with the conventional phantom-based method. Additional investigations were also performed under unusual measurement conditio
As the conventional method of geometric calibration not only needs extra-scan but also have the vulnerability to the dimensional accuracy of the dedicated phantom, we proposed a new geometric calibration scheme based on data redundancy which uses projection data of any arbitrary patient already scanned, mainly focused on a geometry of Varian’s OBI system. Using the fan-beam based data redundancy which can be applied to cone-beam projection data of either full-fan or half-fan geometry, one could
Objective: To analyse the sites of medical information by popular search engines and its appropriateness as guidance to medical information. Method: The search phrase carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and stroke were entered into four commonly used Korean web search engines. 24 and 21 web-sites from search engines were gathered, respectively. These web sites then were evaluated for authorship, content, and an informational value score was assigned to each. Results: According to authorship in CTS, 16.
This paper proposes a Wake-Up Receiver (WuRx) with two Architecture: Tuned-RF Receiver and Direct RF Detection Receiver. The proposed WuRx is designed in CMOS 65nm process and operates at VDD 0.8V and consumes 90uW and 4.5uW, respectively. At the operating frequency of 920MHz, the Receiver achieves a -60dBm/-70dBm Sensitivity [10 -3 bit error rate(BER)] at a data rate of 200 kbps.
Urticaria is classified as Eunjin in Oriental Medicine. The intrinsic causes include digestive system disorder, food poison, parasite, female reproductive health problem, nervous breakdown, and disorder of endocrine hormone. The extrinsic sources include all kinds of insect bites or stings, medications, pollen, dirt, and toxic smells. Some unknown sources also produce urticaria. The urticaria that lasts for more than six weeks, is categorized as chronic urticaria which is not very different from
