Professor Cheolmin Shin's research lab focuses on psychiatric epidemiology, mental health screening, and the neurobiological underpinnings of depression. The lab investigates the validity and utility of depression screening tools such as the PHQ-9 and PHQ-8 in community and clinical settings, with a strong emphasis on population-based studies in Korea. It also explores the gut-brain axis, examining the role of the gut microbiome in neuropsychiatric disorders, and investigates novel antidepressant mechanisms, particularly those involving the glutamatergic system and ketamine’s rapid-acting effects. The lab integrates clinical, psychological, and biological approaches to advance early detection and treatment of mood disorders.
