研究室紹介

Professor Choi Na-hwan's research lab focuses on cardiac regeneration and tissue engineering, with a central emphasis on understanding how extracellular matrix (ECM) architecture and biochemical cues regulate cellular and nuclear remodeling during cardiac reprogramming. The lab develops biomimetic 3D matrices—particularly anisotropically aligned decellularized heart ECM—to study mechanotransduction pathways that drive maturation of induced cardiomyocytes. By integrating bioengineering with stem cell and epigenetic biology, the lab aims to enhance the functional integration and therapeutic potential of reprogrammed cardiac cells. Their work bridges structural biology, regenerative medicine, and cardiovascular disease modeling.

ABSTRACT Extracellular matrix (ECM) of the heart exhibits highly organized anisotropy, which is essential for directing cellular alignment, force transmission, and tissue function. However, mechanistic pathways linking ECM alignment to nuclear and epigenetic remodeling remain poorly defined, especially in the context of direct cardiac reprogramming. Here, a 3D anisotropically aligned decellularized heart ECM (HEM) is engineered to investigate how structural and biochemical cues modulate maturati
