研究室紹介
Professor Chul Young Kim's research lab specializes in natural product isolation, structural elucidation, and bioactivity evaluation of bioactive compounds from medicinal plants and marine organisms. The lab focuses on developing efficient chromatographic techniques—particularly centrifugal partition chromatography (CPC)—for the rapid purification of iridoid glycosides, flavonoids, and other phytochemicals. Current research directions include the identification of Nrf2-activating antioxidants, the synthesis of luminescent iridium complexes for optoelectronic applications, and the preclinical evaluation of natural radioprotective agents using zebrafish models. The lab integrates analytical chemistry, spectroscopy (NMR, MS), and biological assays to bridge natural product discovery with therapeutic potential.

15PURPOSE: On the basis of the benefits of frontline radiation in early-stage, extranodal, natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL), we conducted a phase II trial of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) followed by three cycles of etoposide, ifosfamide, cisplatin, and dexamethasone (VIPD). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Thirty patients with newly diagnosed, stages IE to IIE, nasal ENKTL received CCRT (ie radiation 40 to 52.8 Gy and cisplatin 30 mg/m(2) weekly). Three cycles of VIPD (etoposide 100 mg/m(2)
The expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and fibroblast growth factor (FGF)2 in the irradiated brain was examined to test how a single high dose radiation, similar to that used for intraoperative radiation therapy given to the normal cerebrum, can affect the vascular endothelium. After a burr hole trephination in the rat skull, the cerebral hemisphere was exposed to a single 10 Gy dose of gamma rays, and the radiation effect was assessed at 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks after irradi
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the treatment outcome of three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy in hepatocellular carcinoma patients with portal vein thrombosis, concerning survival and treatment response of thrombosis. METHODS: Forty-five patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who had portal vein thrombosis treated from March 2005 to March 2011 were the subjects of this study. The median total dose was 61.2 Gy (range 38-65 Gy). A daily radiation dose of 1.8-2.5 Gy was administered at a frequency of fi

Fluoride has been widely used for the prevention of dental caries since the mid-20th century. The aim of this study was to investigate the chronologic trends in studies on fluoride mechanisms of action against dental caries during the years 1950 to 2015. To this aim, queries such as “fluoride,” “fluoride and demineralization,” “fluoride and remineralization,” “fluoride and (plaque or biofilms),” and “fluoride and (bacteria or microbials)” were submitted to PubMed to collect research article info
We analysed the treatment outcome of localized extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma initially treated with CEOP-B chemotherapy based on the primary site of involvement (nasal cavity vs. upper aerodigestive tract) and treatment modality (chemotherapy vs. chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy. Forty-three patients newly diagnosed as extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma were analysed: 29 cases from nasal cavity/nasopharynx and 14 from upper aerodigestive tract. Twenty-six patients were treated with chemotherapy
Introduction: Radioprotectors can enhance the efficacy of cancer radiotherapy, but their clinical use remains uncommon. The present study aimed to assess the radioprotective potential of mistletoe extract (commercial name: Abnoba Viscum), a well-known complementary cancer medicine, in zebrafish larvae. Materials and methods: Wild-type AB zebrafish embryos at 4 h-post-fertilization were exposed to 5 Gy 9-MeV electron beam irradiation after being treated for 1 h with 4 mMl/L amifosti
BACKGROUND: The purpose of this report is to summarize our clinical experience of patients with stage I/II extranodal natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type, treated using sequential chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy (SCRT) or concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). METHODS: Forty-three patients with stage I/II extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type, who received SCRT (16 patients) or CCRT (27 patients) were included in the present analysis. RESULTS: The median follow-up time was 39
This study evaluated the mechanical accuracy of an in-house-developed couch-based tracking system (CBTS) according to respiration data. The overall delay time of the CBTS was calculated, and the accuracy, reproducibility, and loading effect of the CBTS were evaluated according to the sinusoidal waveform and various respiratory motion data of real patients with and without a volunteer weighing 75kg. The root mean square (rms) error of the accuracy, the reproducibility, and the sagging measurement
Anticancer treatment strategies using bacteria as a vector are currently expanding with the development of anticancer drugs. Here, we present a research strategy to develop anticancer drugs using bacteria that contain miRNAs. We also present a strategy for the development of novel bacterial anticancer drugs in combination with radiation. Salmonella strains expressing miRNA were produced by modifying the miRNA expression vector encoding INHA, a radiation-resistant gene developed previously. The a
