Professor Da-Ham Kim's research lab specializes in translational molecular oncology and endocrinology, focusing on the identification of molecular biomarkers and therapeutic targets in thyroid cancer and pituitary disorders. The lab investigates genetic and epigenetic alterations—such as TERT promoter and BRAF V600E mutations—in aggressive papillary thyroid cancer to improve diagnosis and prognosis. It also explores non-coding RNAs, including lncRNAs, for their potential in molecular diagnostics, and evaluates novel hormonal therapies, such as long-acting FSH and cabergoline response predictors, in endocrine-related cancers and hypogonadism. Additionally, the lab examines the off-target effects of emerging immunotherapies, such as NK cell therapy, on endocrine function.

On the basis of the hypothesis that endogenous insulin secretion might be correlated with the GA/A1c ratio, we investigated whether insulin secretory function or insulin resistance has different effects on the GA/A1c ratio in patients with type 2 diabetes using the standardized liquid meal test. DESIGN: A clinical, retrospective study. PA
Telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) promoter mutation has been investigated for its clinical and prognostic significance in aggressive papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). In this study, we aimed to assess the prevalence, clinicopathologic features, and treatment outcomes of TERT mutation-positive PTCs along with the common BRAF V600E mutation. We performed mutational analyses for BRAF and the TERT promoter in thyroid cancer patients who had undergone surgery at our institution since 2019. We rev
Objective: Improved molecular testing for common somatic mutations and the identification of mRNA and microRNA expression classifiers are promising approaches for the diagnosis of thyroid nodules. However, there is a need to improve the diagnostic accuracy of such tests for identifying thyroid cancer. Recent findings have revealed a crucial role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in gene modulation. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the diagnostic value of selected lncRNAs from The Atlas of Noncoding RN
OBJECTIVE: The association between prolactin level variation and prolactinoma size reduction remains unclear. This study aimed to determine the prolactin level cut-off predictive of a tumor size reduction. DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. METHODS: We reviewed medical records of patients with prolactinoma who received primary cabergoline therapy and for whom complete data on pituitary hormone assays and sellar MRI at baseline and 3 months post treatment were available. We tested whether the ce
Introduction: Administration of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) has been recommended to stimulate spermatogenesis in infertile men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, whose sperm counts do not respond to human chorionic gonadotropin alone. However, FSH has a short serum half-life requiring frequent administration to maintain its therapeutic efficacy. To improve its pharmacokinetic properties, we developed a unique albumin-binder technology, termed "anti-serum albumin Fab-associated" (SAFA) te
Background: Graves' disease (GD), one of the most common forms of autoimmune thyroid disorders, is characterized by hyperthyroidism caused by antibodies (Abs) against the extracellular A-subunit of the thyrotropin receptor (TSHR). Various approaches have been used to create mouse models of GD, including transfected fibroblasts and immunization with plasmids or adenoviruses expressing human TSHR A-subunit (hTSHR A-subunit). These models, however, require repeated immunization and produce inconsis
The adoptive transfer of ex vivo-expanded natural killer (NK) cells has recently been employed as an alternative cancer treatment in certain institutions. However, the safety profiles of this strategy remain uncharacterized. We evaluated three patients who exhibited elevated serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels without the relevant clinical manifestations and had a history of autologous NK cell therapy. The serum PTH concentration was measured using a second-generation PTH assay, and the serum
An enzyme mixture (EM) of glucose oxidase, glucosyl transferase, and fructosyl transferase can regulate glucose absorption into the body by converting carbohydrates in food to indigestible oligosaccharides. We evaluated the antidiabetic effects of repeated oral administration of EM in db/db mice. Seven-week-old db/db mice were divided into control, voglibose, and EM groups. Drugs were administered orally mixed with limited feed for one month. Glucose levels were measured every week. A meal toler
Thyroid disease mainly has a thyroid origin but can occasionally have a pituitary origin. Clinicians face several challenges when these conditions occur together. We aimed to determine the prevalence of thyroid disorders in patients undergoing trans-sphenoidal adenomectomy (TSA) for pituitary disease. We reviewed the medical records of patients undergoing TSA for pituitary disease between 2008 and 2017 at Severance Hospital. Thyroid disorders were categorized using blood test results and medical
AA amyloidosis is one of the most significant complications of rheumatoid arthritis characterized by the deposition of amyloid A (AA) in multiple organs and tissues in the body. This disorder displays variable clinical symptoms depending upon the involved organ and a diagnosis is rendered through a biopsy of the affected organ, followed by staining using Congo-red which reveals an apple-green birefringence. Fundamental disease control is critical in the treatment of AA amyloidosis. Anti-tumor ne
BACKGRUOUND: Recombinant human follicle-stimulating hormone (rhFSH) is commonly used to treat female infertility, but its short half-life necessitates multiple doses. Even corifollitropin alfa, with an extended half-life, requires supplementary injections of rhFSH after 7 days. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a long-acting follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) formulation using anti-serum albumin Fab-associated (SAFA) technology to avoid additional injections and enhance ovarian function.
