Professor Dong-ho Shin's research lab focuses on endocrine and renal interactions, particularly the impact of thyroid hormone therapy on kidney function in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism and chronic kidney disease. The lab also investigates ophthalmic conditions such as glaucoma, with an emphasis on intraocular pressure management, optic nerve head changes, and surgical interventions like needling revision with 5-fluorouracil for failed filtering blebs. Additional research explores cardiovascular interventions, particularly percutaneous coronary intervention practices in the Korean population. A prospective study of reversal of glaucomatous optic disc cupping was performed by topographic optic disc analysis using the optic nerve head analyzer (Rodenstock analyzer, G. Rodenstock Instrumente GMBH, Munich, West Germany) in 13 adults with chronic open angle glaucoma. ABSTRACT We investigated the outcome of needling revision with adjunctive subconjunctival 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) performed on 30 eyes of 30 consecutive glaucoma patients with failed filtering blebs 49.0 ± 65.4 weeks after trabeculectomy. Follow up was 67.3 ± 22.8 weeks from the time of the first needling revision and 49.9 ± 26.2 weeks from the last needling procedure. Nineteen patients with symmetrical ocular hypertension and symmetrical cupping of the optic nerves were made asymmetric with respect to intraocular pressure for one to five years by unilateral topical treatment with epinephrine hydrochloride.
