PURPOSE: To perform a systematic review comparing the clinical scores, union rate, complications, reoperations, hospital stay, and operation time between open ankle arthrodesis (OAA) and arthroscopic ankle arthrodesis (AAA). METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive search in the MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases. Only comparative studies were included in this meta-analysis. The literature search, data extraction, and quality assessment were conducted by 2 independent reviewers. The ou

SJR Q1The Journal of Knee Surgery

Abstract Extensive bone bleeding and an uncomfortable hematoma can develop due to the opening gap and space during a medial open high tibial osteotomy (HTO). Tranexamic acid (TXA) has been used in various orthopaedic surgeries to reduce bleeding and wound complications. However, no study has investigated the effect of TXA during HTO. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of TXA in reducing postoperative blood loss in patients undergoing HTO. The hypothesis is that topi

Can pelvic tilting be ignored in total hip arthroplasty?
Won Yong Shon, Vivek Kumar Sharma, Oh jong keon, Jun Gyu Moon, Dong Hun Suh
SJR Q3International Journal of Surgery Case ReportsOA

The sagittal position of pelvis is a key factor in impingement and dislocation after total hip arthroplasty. Pelvic tilting affects the position of acetabular component in the sagittal plane of the body as compared with its anatomic position in the pelvis. We suggest a preoperative lateral view of spine-pelvis, in upright and supine position for evaluation of a corrective adaptation of the acetabular cup accordingly with pelvic balance.

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Abstract We conducted a nationwide population-based cohort study to identify the risk factors associated with failure of total ankle arthroplasty (TAA). We included 2,914 subjects who underwent primary TAA between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2016, utilizing the database of the Korean National Health Insurance Service. Failure of TAA was defined as revision TAA or arthrodesis procedures. An increased risk of TAA failure was observed in the < 65 age group versus the ≥ 75 age group [adjust

SJR Q1Orthopaedic Journal of Sports MedicineOA

Background: In hip arthroscopy, the best capsular closure technique to prevent microinstability in some patients while preventing overconstraints in other patients has yet to be determined. Purpose: To evaluate the biomechanical effects of capsular repair, capsular shift, and combination capsular shift and capsular plication for closure of the hip capsule. Study Design: Controlled laboratory study. Methods: Eight cadaveric hips (4 male and 4 female hips; mean age, 55.7 years) were evaluated in 7

SJR Q1Microsurgery

PURPOSE: The gold standard for the treatment of segmental nerve defect is an autogenous nerve graft. However, donor site morbidity is an inevitable complication. We substituted an autogenous nerve graft with an inside-out vein graft for the treatment of segmental sensory nerve defect and the clinical results were evaluated retrospectively. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Eleven patients of sensory nerve defects have undertaken inside-out vein grafts for the recovery of sensation. The involved nerves were

Arthroscopic All-Inside Anterior Talofibular Ligament Repair with and without Inferior Extensor Retinacular Reinforcement
Joon Jo, Jin Woo Lee, Hak Jun Kim, Dong Hun Suh, Won Seok Kim, Gi Won Choi
SJR Q1Journal of Bone and Joint SurgeryOA

BACKGROUND: The utility of inferior extensor retinacular (IER) reinforcement for arthroscopic repair of a lateral ankle injury is debatable. We hypothesized that the outcomes would not differ significantly between arthroscopic all-inside anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) repair with and without IER reinforcement. METHODS: We prospectively randomized 73 patients who had arthroscopic all-inside ATFL repair into 2 groups: those who had IER reinforcement (37 patients) and those who had no IER rei
