Professor Dong Ju Yang's research lab focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying metabolic diseases, particularly obesity, diabetes, and atherosclerosis. The lab investigates key regulatory pathways in the hypothalamus and liver that control energy and glucose homeostasis, with a special emphasis on signaling molecules such as PI3K, STAT3, and transcriptional regulators like SMILE. Using preclinical models and clinical imaging techniques like virtual histology intravascular ultrasound, the lab explores how metabolic dysregulation contributes to plaque vulnerability and cardiovascular complications. The research also examines the therapeutic potential of natural compounds, such as ferulic acid, in modulating metabolic health.
