Professor Dong-woo Shin's research lab specializes in cerebrovascular and neurological disorders, with a focus on the epidemiology of musculoskeletal conditions like neck pain, the pathophysiology of cerebral small vessel disease, and endovascular interventions for acute ischemic stroke. The lab investigates biomarkers such as vitamin D and vascular calcification in relation to neuroimaging findings, including cerebral microbleeds and white matter hyperintensities. It also explores novel reperfusion strategies, such as local intra-arterial thrombolysis combined with mechanical thrombectomy, for challenging large-vessel occlusions. Additionally, the lab examines the neurobiological impact of early-life psychosocial stressors on brain structure and metabolism in healthy individuals.
