Professor Dong-Joon Shin's research lab specializes in advanced signal processing and coding techniques for next-generation wireless communication systems. The lab focuses on reducing peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in OFDM systems, enhancing spectral efficiency and reliability through innovative coding schemes such as LDPC and BCH codes, and developing low-complexity, high-performance decoding algorithms. Key research directions include blind code reconstruction, error floor mitigation, SNR estimation, and robust decoding for spatially coupled LDPC codes, with strong applications in 5G and beyond networks.

15Partial transmit sequence (PTS), a well‐known peak‐to‐average power ratio (PAPR) reduction scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, has been actively investigated to reduce its high computational complexity. Ku et al . proposed a selection method of dominant time‐domain samples and by only using the selected samples, the PAPR of each alternative OFDM signal vector is calculated. This method clearly reduces the computational complexity but it is crucial to select prop
An accurate signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) measurement is essential for cellular and satellite communication receivers for various purposes, including the demodulation algorithm adaptation to the time-varying channel conditions. In this paper, computationally simple SNR estimation methods, called the error vector magnitude (EVM) method and the minimum mean-square error estimation (MMSE) method are proposed. Analytic derivations as well as simulation results are presented to demonstrate the performa
An unreliability‐based information bit flipping (UIBF) decoding using cyclic redundancy check is proposed to lower the error floors of high‐rate systematic low‐density parity‐check (LDPC) codes. Unsuccessfully decoded codeword is redecoded by the UIBF decoding with very low complexity at the end of every iteration of the sum–product (SP) decoding. The proposed scheme is applied to LDPC codes of the IEEE 802.16e standard. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme effectively lowers the err
In this paper, the theoretical lower-bound on the success probability of blind reconstruction of Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) codes is derived. In particular, the blind reconstruction method of BCH codes based on the consecutive roots of generator polynomials is mainly analyzed because this method shows the best blind reconstruction performance. In order to derive a performance lower-bound, the theoretical analysis of BCH codes on the aspects of blind reconstruction is performed. Furthermore
