研究室紹介

Professor Dongsik Kim's research lab specializes in advanced biomaterials and nanotechnology with a focus on regenerative medicine, nanomaterial synthesis, and biomedical applications. The lab develops innovative strategies for liver tissue engineering using stem cells and hepatocytes, aiming to improve liver function and viability in 3D spheroid models. It also investigates the functionalization and individualization of carbon nanotubes and zinc oxide nanowires for applications in biomedicine and optoelectronics. Additionally, the lab explores the interface between nanomaterials and biological systems, including the synthesis of hybrid nanomaterials and their use in sensing and therapeutic platforms.

Expanding the donor pool for liver transplantation with marginal donors
Nicolás Goldaracena, J. Michael Cullen, Dong‐Sik Kim, Burcin Ekser, Karim J. Halazun
SJR Q1International Journal of Surgery

The current supply of acceptable donor livers is not sufficient to meet the demands of listed patients awaiting transplantation resulting in thousands of deaths each year. Increased utilization of marginal livers may help alleviate this supply/demand mismatch by expanding the donor liver pool. The current status of liver transplantation using marginal donor grafts and efforts to optimize usage are discussed with attention to elderly donors, steatotic livers, donors after circulatory death, and s

Individualization of Single‐Walled Carbon Nanotubes: Is the Solvent Important?
Dong‐Sik Kim, Dhriti Nepal, Kurt E. Geckeler
SJR Q1Small

The influence of different solvents on the individualization of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) was investigated by several methods. A stable solution of individual SWNTs in o-dichlorobenzene was obtained by a combination of ultrasonication and ultracentrifugation. Atomic force microscopy height analysis confirmed that the final supernatant solution contained 85 % of individual tubes with a diameter equal to or less than 1.5 nm, which is consistent with the average diameter of arc-dischar

Laser‐Interference Lithography Tailored for Highly Symmetrically Arranged ZnO Nanowire Arrays
Dong‐Sik Kim, Ran Ji, Hong Jin Fan, F. Bertram, Roland W. Scholz, A. Dadgar, Kornelius Nielsch, A. Krost, J. Christen, U. Gösele, Margit Zacharias
SJR Q1Small

Lining up: Highly symmetrically arranged ZnO nanowire arrays (see image) are produced by laser-interference lithography and a chemical vapor transport process. The nanowires show a narrow diameter distribution and uniform spacing. A liquid-phase-assisted vapor–solid mechanism is proposed for one-to-one synthesized ZnO-nanowire growth. Scanning cathodoluminescence and photoluminescence microscopy are used to characterize the optical properties.

Hole‐Doped Single‐Walled Carbon Nanotubes: Ornamenting with Gold Nanoparticles in Water
Dong‐Sik Kim, Takhee Lee, Kurt E. Geckeler
SJR Q1Angewandte Chemie International Edition

A simple and facile method has been developed that allows water-soluble hybrid materials of Au nanoparticles and hole-doped single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) to be prepared. Uniformly arranged Au nanoparticles (see TEM image) were obtained by the addition of metal salts to surfactant-suspended SWNTs in water using the solution-phase dispersion technique.

Early Initiation of Alcohol Drinking, Cigarette Smoking, and Sexual Intercourse Linked to Suicidal Ideation and Attempts: Findings from the 2006 Korean Youth Risk Behavior Survey
Dong‐Sik Kim, Hyun‐Sun Kim
SJR Q2Yonsei Medical JournalOA

Early initiation of alcohol drinking, cigarette smoking, and sexual intercourse, particularly among preteens, represented an important predictor of later suicidal ideation and suicide attempts in both genders. Thus, early preventive intervention programs should be developed and may reduce the potential risks for subsequent suicidal behaviors.

Functional 3D Human Primary Hepatocyte Spheroids Made by Co-Culturing Hepatocytes from Partial Hepatectomy Specimens and Human Adipose-Derived Stem Cells
Da Yoon No, Seung-A Lee, Seung-A Lee, Yoon Young Choi, DoYeun Park, Ju Yun Jang, Dong‐Sik Kim, Sanghoon Lee, Sanghoon Lee
SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

We have generated human hepatocyte spheroids with uniform size and shape by co-culturing 1∶1 mixtures of primary human hepatocytes (hHeps) from partial hepatectomy specimens and human adipose-derived stem cells (hADSCs) in concave microwells. The hADSCs in spheroids could compensate for the low viability and improve the functional maintenance of hHeps. Co-cultured spheroids aggregated and formed compact spheroidal shapes more rapidly, and with a significantly higher viability than mono-cultured

Body Weight Perception, Unhealthy Weight Control Behaviors, and Suicidal Ideation Among Korean Adolescents
Dong‐Sik Kim, Youngtae Cho, Sung‐Il Cho, In-Sook Lim
SJR Q1Journal of School Health

BACKGROUND: This study examined the mediating function of body weight perception (BWP) in the relation between body mass index (BMI) and unhealthy weight control behaviors (UWCBs; eg, fasting, using diet pills, or laxatives), and between BMI and suicidal ideation. It also explored the correlation between exposure to multiple UWCBs and suicidal ideation among Korean adolescents. METHODS: Data on BMI, BWP, UWCBs, and suicidal ideation were obtained from the 2006 Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-base

OBJECTIVE: To identify optimal surgical methods and the risk factors for long-term survival in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma accompanied by macroscopic bile duct tumor thrombus (BDTT). SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA: Prognoses of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma accompanied by BDTT have been known to be poor. There have been significant controversies regarding optimal surgical approaches and risk factors because of the low incidence and small number of cases in previous reports. METHODS:
