Professor Dowon Kim's research lab specializes in advanced materials and device engineering for next-generation semiconductor technologies and biomedical applications. The lab focuses on developing high-performance, ultra-scaled field-effect transistors—particularly Gate-all-around (GAA) FETs—using innovative doping and design techniques such as BSPDN to enhance performance and power efficiency beyond the 2nm node. In parallel, the lab investigates functional oxide thin films, including SrTiO₃ on specially terminated substrates, to explore strain and defect engineering for advanced electronic and oxide heterostructure devices. Additionally, the lab contributes to medical physics through the development of automated QA software for radiotherapy and explores novel anesthetic strategies in pain management using epidural magnesium sulfate.

The CALICE collaboration is studying the design of high performance electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeters for future International Linear Collider detectors. For the electromagnetic calorimeter, the current baseline choice is a high granularity sampling calorimeter with tungsten as absorber and silicon detectors as sensitive material. We have experimentally demonstrated effects of BSPDN on performance-power of standard cell featuring Gate-all-around (GAA) FETs scaled down for SoC technology beyond 2nm node for the first time. 1<sup xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">st</sup> generation (Gen) BSPDN provides high immunity of cell-level leakage with ultra-scaled cell height and we achieve 6% speed gain by optimizing metal routing. Epidural MgSO(4) produced an antinociceptive effect characterised by an increase in the mechanical thresholds of similar magnitude to that produced by epidural morphine, compared with the control group, without causing any motor deficits. No potentiation of morphine antinociception was observed. The onset and offset times of antinociception could not be clearly established. To what extent these results can be extrapolated to clinical cases requires further investigation.

The roles of substrate termination in the growth behaviors of SrTiO3 (STO) films were investigated. With heat treatment and an atomic layer deposition technique, LaAlO3 (LAO) substrates with two kinds of terminations, i.e., LaO- and AlO2-terminated ones, could be prepared. On top of them, STO films were grown by using laser molecular beam epitaxy. In the case of the STO/LaO-LAO film, a transition from layer-by-layer growth to island growth was observed after growth of about 10 monolayers (ML). O
