研究室紹介

Professor Eui-kyoung Seo's research lab specializes in cerebrovascular diseases, with a primary focus on aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebral vasospasm, and their perioperative management. The lab investigates anesthetic techniques, lumbar drainage, and endovascular interventions to improve neurological outcomes. It also explores rare intracranial pathologies such as distal PICA aneurysms and granular cell tumors, emphasizing surgical outcomes and diagnostic accuracy. The research integrates clinical neurosurgery with advanced imaging and multidisciplinary treatment strategies for complex neurological conditions.

Cerebral vasospasm is the most important cause of morbidity after an aneurysm clipping in the early postoperative period. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate whether the incidence of vasospasms differs when using propofol or desflurane for an emergent aneurysm clipping. The data from 102 patients (50 in the propofol group, 52 in the desflurane group) were analyzed. The occurrence of vasospasm based on daily transcranial Doppler, angiography, and cerebral infarction during 14 days

The Effectiveness of Lumbar Cerebrospinal Fluid Drainage to Reduce the Cerebral Vasospasm after Surgical Clipping for Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Soojeong Park, 양나래, 서의교

Objective : Removal of blood from subarachnoid space with a lumbar drainage (LD) may decrease development of cerebral vasospasm. We evaluatedthe effectiveness of a LD for a clinical vasospasm and outcomes after clipping of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Methods : Between July 2008 and July 2013, 234 patients were included in this study. The LD group consisted of 126 patients, 108 patients in the non LD group. We investigated outcomes as follow : 1) clinical vasospasm, 2) angioplasty,

Cerebral angiography showed severe bilateral stenosis at the distal internal carotid artery and basal moyamoya vessels. It was compatible with moyamoya disease (Fig. Emergent extraventricular drainage was performed. His mentality gradually improved to alert. Ophthalmologic examination at our hospital detected a vitreous hemorrhage in his left eye (Fig. In spite of three months conservative care, his visual acuity was not improved.

Brain Tumor Research and TreatmentOA

Granular cell tumors (GCTs) have been reported in various tissues, especially the skin and subcutaneous soft tissue of the head and neck. We report a 60-year-old man who presented with intermittent headache and dizziness for 3 months, but no other neurological symptoms. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed the presence of a mass in the pituitary stalk, and contrast-enhanced MRI showed nodular enhancement in this region. The lesion was completely excised microscopically via a frontotemporal (p

Objective : Aneurysms are very rarely encountered in the distal posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA). The authors experienced 5 cases with a distal PICA aneurysm among 368 cases of intracranial aneurysms during the period from January 2003 to January 2008. Here, the authors describe their clinical and surgical experiences and include a review of the relevant literature. Methods : Using radiologic findings and charts, we retrospectively reviewed the surgical results of 5 cases with a dista

We report a case of a 23-year-old female immigrant from China who was diagnosed with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis affecting her lung and brain, resistant to the standard first-line therapeutics and streptomycin. She was treated with prothionamide, moxifloxacin, cycloserine, and kanamycin. However, her headache and brain lesion worsened. After the brain biopsy, the patient was confirmed with intracranial tuberculoma. Linezolid was added to intensify the treatment regimen, and steroid was adde

Large Ossified Rathke’s Cleft Cyst -A Case Report and Review of the Literature-

http://kmbase.medric.or.kr/Main.aspx?d=KMBASE&m=VIEW&i=1001920080440040256

We report a rare case of symptomatic Rathke’s cleft cyst with thick calcified wall. Brain CT scans revealed a large cystic mass with round thick calcified wall. In this case, we selected the pterional approach instead of transsphenoidal approach due to the possibility of cystic craniopharyngioma. Histopathologically, it was calcified Rathke’s cleft cyst with focal epithelial metaplasia. This case illustrates that calcification of the suprasellar cyst does not always suggest craniopharyngioma and

Moyamoya disease is a cerebrovascular disease of unknown etiology, which is characterized by bilateral stenosis or occlusion at terminal portion of internal carotid artery and at proximal portion of anterior cerebral artery and /or middle cerebral artery and abnormal vascular network in the vicinity of the arterial occlusions. It occurs frequently in Asian countries, particularly in Korea and Japan, but is rare in Western countries. To establish the etiology of moyamoya disease, much about the p

SJR Q1Neuro-OncologyOA

Sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma with intracranial extension is an extremely rare malignant tumor arising in the sinonasal tract, having combined histological features of teratoma and carcinosarcoma. Here, we are presenting a case of sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma with intracranial extension. A 62-year-old female patient presented with nasal obstruction and recurrent epistaxis for last 2 months. On examination, a polypoid mass was noted in nasal cavity. MRI scan showed that bulky heterogeneous enh

A very rare case of multiple primary intracranial tumors is reported. A 41-year-old female patient was referred for surgery with a cerebellopontine angle (CPA) tumor. Medical history and MRI study showed typical findings of a right acoustic neuroma with a hydrocephalus. Neurological, dermatological, and ocular examinations revealed no evidence of neurofibromatosis. During surgery, a red-colored cauliflower like mass was found in the right CPA. The roof of the fourth ventricle could be seen throu
