Professor Eun Bong Lee's research lab focuses on autoimmune rheumatic diseases, with a particular emphasis on understanding immune cell biology, optimizing treatment strategies, and improving patient outcomes in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic sclerosis, and systemic lupus erythematosus. The lab investigates the role of specific immune cell subsets—like stem cell-like memory T cells—in disease pathogenesis and treatment response, while also evaluating the efficacy and safety of disease-modifying therapies, including JAK inhibitors and methotrexate. Additionally, the lab examines infection risks, such as pneumocystis pneumonia, in patients on long-term steroid therapy, and explores strategies to enhance vaccine responses in immunosuppressed populations. Their work combines clinical trials, immunophenotyping, and advanced statistical modeling to translate immunological insights into personalized therapeutic approaches.

15In patients who had not previously received methotrexate or therapeutic doses of methotrexate, tofacitinib monotherapy was superior to methotrexate in reducing signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and inhibiting the progression of structural joint damage. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether a 2-week methotrexate (MTX) discontinuation after vaccination improves the efficacy of seasonal influenza vaccination in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
