研究室紹介
Professor Eun-mi Cheon's research lab focuses on epidemiological and translational studies exploring the complex interplay between metabolic health, immune function, and chronic diseases. Key research directions include the impact of obesity and metabolic syndrome on tuberculosis risk, the long-term effects of low-dose aspirin on lung cancer prevention, and the immunological and psychiatric sequelae associated with COVID-19 infection and vaccination. The lab also investigates molecular mechanisms underlying immune cell differentiation, particularly involving apolipoprotein C-II in monocyte/macrophage development. These studies are primarily based on large-scale population-based cohort data from South Korea, emphasizing real-world health outcomes and public health implications.

15Our study suggests that high BMI might be associated with decreased risk of TB. However, very high BMI did not reduce the risk of TB in young females or diabetics participants with in Korean population.
Although the use of low-dose aspirin for more than 5 years was associated with decreased risk of lung cancer, particularly among elderly participants and among people without diabetes, the observed effect size was quite modest. Future prospective studies are needed to determine whether there is a causal association.
BACKGROUND: In epidemiological studies of asthma, questionnaires to differentiate asthmatics from non-asthmatics have proven to be cost-effective and convenient. The aim of this study was to analyze the association between hyperresponsiveness to methacholine and the validity of five items for the asthma like questionnaire recommended by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA). METHODS: A total of 680 subjects who visited the pulmonology department with suspected symptoms of asthma were enrolled.
Apolipoprotein C-II (apoC-II), which is known to activate lipoprotein lipase (LPL), was identified by ordered differential display (ODD)-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) as a cDNA fragment exhibiting a distinct increase in expression during 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate (TPA)-induced differentiation of promonocytic U937 cells into monocytes and macrophages. The amount of apoC-II mRNA expression detectable in U937 cells significantly increased and reached a maximum 24-48 h after treatment w
Evidence has suggested an increased risk of psychiatric manifestations following viral infections including coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). However, psychiatric adverse events (AEs) after COVID-19 vaccination, which were documented in case reports and case series, remain unclear. This study is aimed to investigate the psychiatric AEs after COVID-19 vaccination from a large population-based cohort in Seoul, South Korea. We recruited 50% of the Seoul-resident population randomly selected from
BackgroundThere is growing evidence that the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination can affect the regulation of the immune system, leading to the development of autoimmune diseases. However, the autoimmune adverse events (AEs) after COVID-19 vaccination remain largely unclear.ObjectiveWe sought to investigate the autoimmune AEs after COVID-19 vaccination from a population-based cohort in South Korea.MethodsA total of 4,203,887 participants, representing 50% of the population residing i
BACKGROUND: Colorectal adenomatous polyps are precancerous lesions of colorectal cancer. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of colorectal adenomatous polyps in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients and determine whether COPD is associated with colorectal malignant potential. METHODS: Subjects who had undergone post-bronchodilator spirometry and colonoscopy and were 40 years or older were selected from the hospital database. COPD was defined as a spirometry in whic
Quality of life was significantly reduced in the group with symptomatic spine OA in a large cross-sectional analysis. Physicians should consider quality of life in the treatment of patients with spine OA.
Quitting smoking helps smokers maintain their health and extend their lifespan by 10 or more years. Treatment strategies for smoking cessation should be tailored to individual smokers with special needs based on their specific circumstances. It is recommended that pregnant women adopt smoking cessation through counseling and behavioral interventions because the safety of medications has yet to be established. Counseling is the main strategy for smoking cessation in adolescents and nicotine repla
This report describes a rare case of benign superior vena cava syndrome (SVCS) accompanying recalcitrant pleural effusion developed secondary to extrinsic compression by anthracotic calcified mediastinal lymphadenopathy which was corrected by surgical bypass graft. An 81-year-old female presented with recalcitrant pleural effusion for several months despite of medical treatments. SVCS developed progressively without any other radiological evidence of malignancy or active infection on initial che
