Professor Eunjung Bae's research lab specializes in pediatric cardiology and congenital heart disease, with a focus on long-term cardiovascular complications in children following critical interventions such as the Fontan procedure, radiofrequency catheter ablation, and early-life conditions like bronchopulmonary dysplasia. The lab investigates hemodynamic, echocardiographic, and radiological markers of heart dysfunction, particularly pulmonary hypertension, left ventricular dysfunction, and late-onset liver disease. A key research direction involves identifying risk factors and improving outcomes in preterm infants and children with arrhythmias or post-surgical sequelae.

15BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: With the increasing survival of preterm infants, pulmonary hypertension (PH) related to bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) has become an important complication. INTRODUCTION: Echocardiographic studies have shown that some patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome have myocardial dyskinesia in the segments precociously activated by an accessory pathway (AP). BACKGROUND: The safety and effectiveness of radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) for supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) in young children was investigated. METHODS: Ninety-five children who underwent RFCA procedures were stratified according to age (group 1, 0-4 years, n = 24; group 2, 5-9 years, n = 71) and were evaluated retrospectively. Because cardiac dysfunction did not resolve after RT in pediatric population, regular evaluation for cardiovascular function after RT is required. Early RT may also be beneficial to global LV performance after RT.
