研究室紹介
Professor Ga Hee Kim's research lab specializes in gastrointestinal oncology and minimally invasive endoscopic therapies, with a strong focus on early gastric cancer and esophageal disorders. The lab investigates innovative targeted drug delivery systems, such as siRNA-loaded chitosan nanoparticles coated with hyaluronic acid for anti-angiogenic therapy in cancer. It also explores endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) outcomes in elderly patients, emphasizing the impact of comorbidities, sarcopenia, and nutritional status on survival. Additionally, the lab contributes to understanding the pathophysiology and biomarkers of esophageal diseases such as eosinophilic esophagitis and achalasia, aiming to improve personalized treatment strategies.

15Angiogenesis plays an essential role in the growth and metastasis of tumor cells, and the modulation of angiogenesis can be an effective approach for cancer therapy. We focused on silencing the angiogenic gene PLXDC1 as an important factor for anti-angiogenesis tumor therapy. Herein, we developed PLXDC1 small interfering siRNA (siRNA)-incorporated chitosan nanoparticle (CH-NP/siRNA) coated with hyaluronic acid (HA) to target the CD44 receptor on tumor endothelial cells. This study aimed to impro
Proper treatment with careful consideration of the primary tumor characteristics can increase the survival period in patients with tumors that metastasize to the stomach, especially in cases with solitary metastatic lesions in endoscopic findings.
BACKGROUND AND AIM: Optimal treatment modalities for each of the three subtypes of achalasia are still under debate. Differences in prognosis and long-term outcomes between peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) and balloon dilation (BD) are also unclear. We aimed to compare the treatment outcomes of BD and POEM in each subtype of achalasia by using information from the manometry database of a tertiary referral center in Korea. METHODS: Data from 5207 esophageal manometry procedures performed between
Background/Aim: We investigated the oncologic outcomes in elderly patients who underwent endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for early gastric cancer (EGC) by focusing on the impact of comorbidities, sarcopenia, and nutritional status. Methods: Between 2005 and 2016, 280 patients aged ≥ 80 years with 289 EGCs underwent ESD at a tertiary care center. The short- and long-term survival outcomes were assessed. Cox regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with survival, includin
EoE incidence considerably increased during the 12-year period, regardless of endoscopic esophageal biopsy rate. Tryptase, EDN, and eotaxin-3 levels in esophageal biopsy specimens could be promising biomarkers for disease activity, symptom, and endoscopic response in Korea.
With improvements in the early detection of early gastric cancer (EGC) and advances in therapeutic techniques, endoscopic resection (ER) for EGC has become widely adopted in East Asian and Western countries. Endoscopic submucosal dissection has higher rates of en bloc, complete, and curative resections with lower rates of local recurrence than that of endoscopic mucosal resection. ER is a minimally invasive method with low morbidity that provides excellent outcomes. ER for EGC is a safe, effecti
The number of patients with EoE appears to have increased significantly over the 9-year period investigated, while the number of endoscopic investigations increased only marginally. Greater awareness of EoE and the role of esophageal biopsies should be considered.
In this nationwide study, achalasia was associated with increased risk of mortality. Esophageal cancer and pneumonia were the most common comorbidities and the major causes of death in patients with achalasia.
Esophageal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) can be a curative treatment for superficial esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SESCC). However, it is unclear whether the development of metachronous recurrence after ESD may be explained based on several risk factors. This study aimed to assess the incidence and the risk factors of metachronous recurrence of SESCC after ESD. This retrospective analysis was conducted at Samsung Medical Center, Seoul, Korea, from April 2007 to May 2018. Two hundr
The long-term prognosis of patients with T1aESCC was significantly associated with underlying comorbidities.
With the advances in technology and medical knowledge, new diseases are being identified and investigated. Esophageal motility disorders have been re-defined using high-resolution manometry and their pathogenesis are being better understood. The use of opioid analgesics is increasing worldwide, particularly in the United States, but their chronic use can cause opioid-induced esophageal dysfunction, which mimics spastic motor disorders, including achalasia type 3 or 2 and esophagogastric junction
