Professor Gi-jeong Lim's research lab specializes in translational biomedical research with a focus on developing targeted therapeutic strategies for cancer and hearing disorders. The lab investigates cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) for selective intracellular delivery in cancer therapy, aiming to enhance efficacy while minimizing off-target toxicity. Additionally, the lab explores protective agents—such as Korean red ginseng extract—against ototoxicity, particularly in the context of cisplatin-induced hearing loss. The team also conducts population-based epidemiological studies to assess the prevalence and trends of hearing loss and chronic ear diseases in South Korea.

To estimate prevalence of severe-profound hearing loss (HL) in South Korea, and analyse a 10-year trend of HL according to age, sex, and region by using a nationwide population-based database. No ultrastructural changes in the mice cochlea were observed by TEM at 3 h after salicylate injection. Microarray revealed that 87 genes were up-regulated twofold or more in the mouse cochlea with salicylate ototoxicity in comparison to the normal cochlea. Among these genes, increased expression levels of 30 functional genes were confirmed by semi-quantitative RT-PCR.
