Professor Gwan-Kyu Park's research lab specializes in the design, fabrication, and optimization of capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs) for biomedical and underwater applications. The lab focuses on advanced microfabrication techniques—such as local oxidation of silicon (LOCOS), direct wafer bonding, and sacrificial layer processes—to achieve precise control over device geometry, gap height, and electrical performance. Key research directions include enhancing device reliability through improved insulation layers, maximizing sensitivity and bandwidth via innovative CMUT modes (e.g., collapse-mode), and developing wearable ultrasonic systems for real-time physiological monitoring, such as continuous bladder volume measurement.
