Professor Gwang-hyun Kim's research lab specializes in urological oncology and minimally invasive surgical techniques, with a strong focus on improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes in genitourinary cancers. The lab investigates liquid biopsy applications using cell-free and exosomal DNA from urine for non-invasive detection of urothelial bladder carcinoma, and explores prognostic factors in renal cell carcinoma, particularly the impact of histological subtypes on survival. The bladder is involved in less than 4% of inguinal hernias. Inguinoscrotal bladder hernias are difficult to diagnose, and less than 7% are diagnosed preoperatively. Inguinoscrotal bladder hernias are usually asymptomatic. However, they can result in significant complications, such as bladder necrosis or acute renal failure. Accurate diagnosis is crucial to avoid bladder injury during surgery and other complications. Here we report the case of a 64-year-old man who presented with a scrotal mass.

The da Vinci SP system provides a new robotic surgical platform for single port surgery while maintaining the major features of robotic surgery similar to multi-port surgery. Various single port urologic surgeries can be safely performed with this platform.
Approximately, half of patients experienced metabolic acidosis one month after ileal neobladder reconstruction. Preoperative impaired renal function was the most significant risk factor for developing metabolic acidosis in the early postoperative period. However, the incidence of metabolic acidosis decreased to less than 20% 1 year after surgery, and diabetes was an independent risk factor during this period.

To determine the suitability of serum endocan (ESM-1) levels for diagnosing and monitoring renal cell carcinoma (RCC), we measure serum ESM-1 levels in 56 RCC patients who had undergone radical or partial nephrectomies and 56 age- and sex-matched healthy kidney donors.
