研究室紹介

Professor Gwang-Soo Lee's research lab focuses on molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying human diseases, with a strong emphasis on cancer biology, genetic disorders, and neurodegenerative conditions. The lab investigates non-coding RNAs like nc886 in tumorigenesis, particularly in gastric cancer, and explores the molecular basis of connective tissue diseases such as osteogenesis imperfecta through genetic analysis. Additionally, the lab examines neuroanatomical substrates of sleep-related movements and develops biomimetic nanomaterials for catalytic applications in aqueous environments.

Studies on the Active Transport of Calcium in Human Red Cells
Kwang Soo Lee, Bak C. Shin
SJR Q1The Journal of General PhysiologyOA

The Ca(++) transport mechanism in the red cell membrane was studied in resealed ghost cells. It was found that the red cell membrane can transport Ca(++) from inside the cell into the medium against great concentration gradient ratios. Tracing the movement of (45)Ca infused inside red cells indicated that over 95% of all Ca(++) in the cells was transported into media in 20 min incubation under the optimum experimental conditions. The influence of temperature on the rate constant of transport ind

nc886 is a 101 nucleotide long non-coding RNA that has been designated as a precursor microRNA or a vault RNA based upon it sequence. nc886 has also been suggested to be a tumor suppressor, mainly inferred by its expression pattern as well as its genomic location at human chromosome 5q31, a locus for a tumor suppressor gene(s). However, legitimate data based on nc886's correct identity for its functional cellular roles as a tumor suppressor have not been provided yet. Here we have investigated n

A self-assembled nanotube for the direct aldol reaction in water
Kwang Soo Lee, Jon R. Parquette
SJR Q1Chemical Communications

Nanotubes formed by the aqueous assembly of a proline-lysine dipeptide (1) were used to create the hydrophobic microenvironments required to catalyze the aldol reaction in water. The self-assembly process occurred most efficiently in the presence of the substrates, producing an array of homogeneous nanotubes under the reaction conditions. The nanotubes formed by dipeptide 1 served as an efficient catalyst for the aldol reaction that functioned at low loading levels and provided good to excellent

SJR Q1Human MutationOA

Mutations in the type I collagen genes COL1A1 and COL1A2 are responsible for the dominantly inherited connective tissue disorder osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). The severity of OI is diverse, ranging from perinatal lethality to a very mild phenotype that is characterized by normal stature and the absence of deformities. Although there have been several studies on the mutational spectra of COL1A1 and/or COL1A2 in Western populations, very few cases have been reported from Asia. In this study, we in

Periodic limb movement during sleep developed after pontine lesion
Joong‐Seok Kim, Sang‐Bong Lee, Soung‐Kyeong Park, Si‐Ryung Han, Yeong‐In Kim, Kwang‐Soo Lee
SJR Q1Movement Disorders

We describe 2 patients who suffered a pontine infarction and subsequently developed periodic leg movement (PLM). The temporal relationship between a stroke and subsequent PLM, as well as the absence of sleep-related disorders in patients' histories, favors the argument of a cause-and-effect relationship, with the observed association providing evidence for an anatomic substrate for PLM.

The aims of this study were to clarify the distribution and spread pattern of metastatic nodes and to evaluate the importance of the number, ratio, and location of positive nodes in ampullary adenocarcinoma. We analyzed the clinicopathologic data and survival of 52 patients who received curative pancreatoduodenectomy for ampullary adenocarcinoma between June 1994 and May 2009. Metastatic lymph nodes were found in 32 (61.5%) patients. The median number of evaluated nodes and positive nodes were 2

Modified atmosphere packaging of a mixed prepared vegetable salad dish
Kwang Soo Lee, Insu Park, Dong Sun Lee
SJR Q1International Journal of Food Science & Technology

Abstract The aim of this study was to design a modified atmosphere package for a mixed vegetable salad consisting of 75 g of cut carrot, 55 g of cut cucumber, 20 g of sliced garlic and 50 g of whole green pepper. Respiration data of all the components were combined with film permeability data to predict package atmospheres and design optimal packages for experimental testing for improved shelf-life of the produce. The optimal package avoided minimum O2 and maximum CO2 tolerance limits, and chill

PURPOSE: Previous single-center or meta-analysis studies analyzed myocardial I-metaiodobenzylguanidine (I-MIBG) scintigraphy in a single image session and demonstrated low sensitivity and high specificity for discriminating Parkinson disease (PD) from atypical Parkinsonian syndromes (APS). This study aimed to assess diagnostic ability of myocardial I-MIBG scintigraphy at 2 phases to discriminate PD from APS. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This hospital-based prospective study enrolled 162 PD and 26 APS p
