研究室紹介

Professor Ha-Yan Kwon's research lab focuses on maternal-fetal health, particularly the long-term cardiovascular and metabolic programming of offspring due to adverse intrauterine environments such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes mellitus. The lab investigates endothelial progenitor cell dysfunction, lymphangiogenesis, and epigenetic mechanisms underlying fetal programming, with an emphasis on vascular development and disease origins. Key research directions include the functional and molecular alterations in endothelial and lymphatic progenitor cells exposed to maternal pathologies.

Decreased Lymphangiogenic Activities and Genes Expression of Cord Blood Lymphatic Endothelial Progenitor Cells (VEGFR3+/Pod+/CD11b+ Cells) in Patient with Preeclampsia

SJR Q1International Journal of Molecular SciencesOA

The abnormal development or disruption of the lymphatic vasculature has been implicated in metabolic and hypertensive diseases. Recent evidence suggests that the offspring exposed to preeclampsia (PE) in utero are at higher risk of long-term health problems, such as cardiovascular and metabolic diseases in adulthood, owing to in utero fetal programming. We aimed to investigate lymphangiogenic activities in the lymphatic endothelial progenitor cells (LEPCs) of the offspring of PE. Human umbilical

The Association Between Low 50 g Glucose Challenge Test Values and Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes
Hayan Kwon, Joonho Lee, Byung‐Wan Lee, Ja‐Young Kwon, Young Han Kim
SJR Q1Journal of Women s HealthOA

Rate of SGA infants was significantly higher and cesarean delivery and PPH rates were significantly lower in women with low GCT values. Low GCT values were independently associated with an increased risk of SGA.

SJR Q1International Journal of Molecular SciencesOA

Maternal hyperglycemia, induced by gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), has detrimental effects on fetal vascular development, ultimately increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases in offspring. The potential underlying mechanisms through which these complications occur are due to functional impairment and epigenetic changes in fetal endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), which remain less defined. We confirm that intrauterine hyperglycemia leads to the impaired angiogenic function of fetal EP

SJR Q2Obstetrics & Gynecology ScienceOA

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the risk of emergency cesarean section according to the prepregnancy body mass index (BMI) and gestational weight gain per the 2009 Institute of Medicine guidelines. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of data from 2,765 women with singleton full-term births (2009 to 2012) who attempted a vaginal delivery was conducted. Pregnancies with preeclampsia, chronic hypertension, diabetes, planned cesarean section, placenta previa, or cesarean section due to fetal anomalies or intra

[Estimation of mortality from census survival rates and consequent estimates of birth and death rates: 1975-1980 case of Korea].

The authors first calculate the rate of natural increase of the population of the Republic of Korea using 1975 and 1980 census data. They then develop an abridged life table using the model life tables of Coale and Demeny, calculate the number of deaths from these tables using age-specific mortality rates, and deduce crude birth and death rates for Korea. The results are compared with mortality data from the national fertility survey of 1976, and the differences between the two sources are analy

Efficacy of Bakri Balloon Tamponade in Massive Postpartum Hemorrhage: A Series of 57 Cases
Hayan Kwon, Young Han Kim, Yong-Won Park, Ja‐Young Kwon
SJR Q4PerinatologyOA

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of intrauterine Bakri balloon tamponade as a management of massive postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). Methods: Retrospective study including women who underwent intrauterine Bakri balloon tam ponade for massive PPH between April 2010 and July 2015 was conducted. Massive PPH was defined as estimated blood loss exceeding 1,500 mL. Bakri balloon was inserted into uterus if wo men had PPH despite medical treatment after vaginal delivery or cesarean section. The balloon wa

Deep Learning-Based Automated Measurement of Cervical Length in Transvaginal Ultrasound Images of Pregnant Women
Hayan Kwon, Siyu Sun, Hyun Cheol Cho, Hye Sun Yun, Park Sungwook, Yun Ji Jung, Ja‐Young Kwon, Jin Keun Seo
SJR Q1IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics

Cervical length (CL) measurement using transvaginal ultrasound is an effective screening tool to assess the risk of preterm birth. An adequate assessment of CL is crucial, however, manual sonographic CL measurement is highly operator-dependent and cumbersome. Therefore, a reliable and reproducible automatic method for CL measurement is in high demand to reduce inter-rater variability and improve workflow. Despite the increasing use of artificial intelligence techniques in ultrasound, applying de

SJR Q2DiagnosticsOA

Background/Objective: Accurately identifying women at high risk for preterm birth among those with threatened preterm labor (PTL) is crucial for effective interventions or tocolytic management to reduce preterm birth and its complications. This study aimed to determine the predictive value of cervical elastography for preterm delivery before 37 weeks of gestation in patients with threatened PTL and a cervical length greater than 15 mm. Methods: This prospective cohort study included pregnant wom

Feasibility and Reproducibility of a Structure‐Guided Deep Learning Model for Automatic Detection of the Standard Sagittal Plane in First‐Trimester Nuchal Translucency Assessment Using 3D Ultrasound
Hayan Kwon, Hyewon HUR, Hyun Cheol Cho, Yun Ji Jung, Suhra Kim, Ja‐Young Kwon
SJR Q2Journal of Ultrasound in MedicineOA

OBJECTIVES: Accurate nuchal translucency (NT) measurement for assessing the risk of fetal genetic abnormalities requires precise acquisition of the mid-sagittal plane (MSP). However, achieving an appropriate MSP is technically challenging due to anatomical variability and operator dependence inherent in conventional 2-dimensional (2D) ultrasound. This study aimed to develop and validate a novel deep learning algorithm for automated fetal MSP extraction from 3-dimensional (3D) ultrasound volumes
