Professor Ha Yeon Jang's research lab specializes in computational phonology, speech production, and aging-related speech changes, with a strong focus on the Korean language. The lab investigates sub-syllabic phonological processing in L1 and L2 speech production, articulatory phonetics using physiological constraints such as tongue muscle dynamics, and the acoustic correlates of vocal emotion and aging in natural speech. Using big data corpora, experimental priming, and advanced acoustic analysis (e.g., OpenSMILE, eGeMAPS), the lab bridges theoretical phonology with empirical speech science, particularly in cross-linguistic and sociolinguistic contexts.

This study examines how sub-syllabic overlap influences naming latency in Korean speakers’ L1 Korean and L2 English production using a low-load picture-naming priming paradigm.
