Professor Haeryoung Kim's research lab focuses on the molecular and pathological characterization of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), with a central emphasis on tumor heterogeneity, stemness properties, and the tumor microenvironment. The lab investigates the clinicopathological and prognostic significance of stemness-related markers (e.g., K19, EpCAM, CD133) and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers in HCC, as well as the role of stromal components such as cancer-associated fibroblasts and extracellular matrix proteins in PDAC progression. Their work integrates immunohistochemistry, molecular profiling, and morpho-molecular correlation to improve classification and outcome prediction in gastrointestinal malignancies.
