Professor Hai-Hoon Choi's research lab specializes in developmental psychology, with a primary focus on early emotional and social development in infants. The lab investigates mother-infant attachment, emotional regulation, and the interplay between caregiving behaviors and infant temperament in Korean cultural contexts. Using standardized observational methods such as the Strange Situation Procedure and the Infant & Caregiver Engagement Phases (ICEP), the lab examines how attachment security and emotional regulation strategies emerge and interact during critical developmental periods. The research emphasizes cross-cultural comparisons and the identification of culturally specific patterns in infant-caregiver relationships.

The attachment of Korean infants with their mothers was analyzed by individual attachment and interaction behaviors. The Strange Situation was used with 35 12- 18-month-old infants. Results were similar to the findings of Ainsworth et al(1978), in that exploratory and attachment behavior systems of Korean infants changed depending on separation with their mothers. Then again we could discover the orginal attachment characteristics of Korean infants. Korean infants showed meaningful differences i
