Professor Han-Sol Choi's research lab specializes in neurobiology and molecular pharmacology, focusing on the neural mechanisms underlying motor coordination and pathological tremors, particularly through the study of voltage-gated calcium channels such as Ca(V)3.1 in the inferior olive. The lab also investigates the functional genomics of animal models, including thoroughbred horses, to understand muscle function and disease, and explores natural products from microbial sources for their neuroprotective and enzyme-inhibitory activities. Additionally, the lab examines the genetic basis of complex vocal behaviors in mice, linking neural circuits to behavioral phenotypes.

Two piloquinone derivatives isolated from Streptomyces sp. CNQ-027 were tested for the inhibitory activities of two isoforms of monoamine oxidase (MAO), which catalyzes monoamine neurotransmitters.
