Professor Hee-Sung Lee's research lab specializes in surgical oncology, with a primary focus on gastrointestinal malignancies, particularly colorectal liver metastasis, biliary tract cancer, and pancreatic cancer. The lab investigates minimally invasive and curative surgical techniques such as radiofrequency ablation, hepatectomy, and transduodenal ampullectomy, aiming to optimize patient outcomes through evidence-based comparisons of surgical modalities. A key research direction involves understanding the biological pathways of lymphatic metastasis in pancreatic cancer, especially in left-sided tumors, and evaluating the impact of extended lymph node dissection on survival. The lab also explores novel biomarkers, such as microbiome alterations in biliary tract disease, to improve early diagnosis and personalized treatment strategies.
