Professor Heejoon Jang's research lab specializes in hepatology and metabolic liver diseases, with a strong focus on the epidemiology, pathogenesis, and clinical outcomes of steatotic liver disease, including metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), MetALD, and alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD). The lab conducts large-scale, population-based cohort studies using national health databases to investigate the long-term risks of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), cirrhosis, and cardiovascular disease in relation to liver disease subtypes and metabolic factors. They also evaluate the effectiveness and safety of various pharmacotherapies—such as SGLT2 inhibitors, aspirin, and systemic therapies like regorafenib and nivolumab—in patients with liver disease and comorbid conditions like type 2 diabetes and chronic hepatitis B.
