Professor Ho-Jung Lee's research lab focuses on understanding the metabolic adaptations and tumor microenvironment interactions that drive cancer progression, particularly in metastatic settings such as breast cancer brain metastasis and colorectal liver metastasis. The lab investigates cancer cell metabolism, including gluconeogenesis and amino acid oxidation, as well as the role of stromal cells like astrocytes and fibroblasts in chemoresistance. It also explores novel therapeutic strategies, including natural compound-based therapies (e.g., oleandrin derivatives) and gene therapy approaches targeting metastatic spread.

The formation of hepatic metastases in colorectal cancer is the main cause of patient death. Current therapies directed at hepatic metastasis of colorectal cancer have had minimal impact on outcome. Therefore, alternative treatment strategies for liver metastasis require development. Microbial Population, Aflatoxin Contamination and Predominant Aspergillus Species in Korean Stored Rice

We evaluated microbial populations and aflatoxin production in unhulled and white rice from rice processing complexes of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation in five regions in Korea and identified three predominant Aspergillus species. Fungal and bacterial populations in rice samples were significantly different between regions in 2007. The effects of wild type and UV-irradiated lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) ethanolic extracts (MOE and UMOE) on melanogenesis in vitro were examined.
