Professor Hong-seok Park's research lab focuses on urological oncology, particularly the molecular mechanisms underlying chromosomal instability and cancer progression, with a strong emphasis on Aurora kinase A as a biomarker in bladder cancer. The lab also investigates the impact of physiological stressors—such as sleep deprivation—on male reproductive health, exploring hormonal and cellular changes in rodent models. Additionally, the lab contributes to surgical innovation through the evaluation of robotic simulation training and endourological techniques for ureteral stone management. Their work bridges molecular biology, translational research, and clinical urology to improve diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

There has been no study reporting on the influence of sleep deprivation on the male reproductive system including sperm quality. In this study, we hypothesized that sleep deprivation could lead to adverse effect on the male reproductive system. Since vesicoureteral reflux is the common risk factor for acute scintigraphic lesion and ultimate scar formation, voiding cystourethrogram must be considered as an initial study in patients with acute febrile urinary tract infection.
For large proximal ureteral stones, LU can be conducted safely as a first-line procedure without increase of complication rate, compared with conventional URS. Although LU required a prolonged operative time and a longer hospital stay and blood loss was greater, our data showed an advantage of LU in high clearance rate in a single procedure.
Our study showed that the robotic virtual reality simulator (dV-Trainer) can yield sufficient improvement in technical performance in the "Tube 2" task within 4 hours. The simulator improves the technical surgical performance, but the development of more applications to reflect actual surgical situations is needed to improve and maximize the usefulness of the simulator.

We report two cases of deep tracheal laceration in female patients after balloon dilation for benign tracheobronchial stenosis. PURPOSE: We assessed whether differences exist in the rates of acute photon defect and scar formation using dimercapto-succinic acid scintigraphy according to the presence and grade of vesicoureteral reflux.
