Theoretical Models of Sunspots
Hong Sik Yun
SJR Q1The Astrophysical Journal

It is shown that Deinzer's models of sunspots can be improved by introducing a new surface boundary condition. The new boundary condition is derived by taking into account the effect of the horizontal pressure difference at the photosphere. Thirty-two models of sunspots are constructed by using as parameters the effective temperature, total magnetic flux, and inclination of the field at the outer edge of the penumbra. Some observable quantities such as the Wilson depression, the surface field st

Development of an RTK-GPS Positioning Application with an Improved Position Error Model for Smartphones
Jin-Sang Hwang, Hong‐Sik Yun, Yong-Cheol Suh, Jeongho Cho, Dongha Lee
SJR Q1SensorsOA

This study developed a smartphone application that provides wireless communication, NRTIP client, and RTK processing features, and which can simplify the Network RTK-GPS system while reducing the required cost. A determination method for an error model in Network RTK measurements was proposed, considering both random and autocorrelation errors, to accurately calculate the coordinates measured by the application using state estimation filters. The performance evaluation of the developed applicati

SJR Q1WaterOA

This study outlines the preliminary stages of the development of an algorithm to predict the optimal WQ of the Hwanggujicheon Stream. In the first stages, we used the AdaBoost algorithm model to predict the state of WQ, using data from the open artificial intelligence (AI) hub. The AdaBoost algorithm has excellent predictive performance and model suitability and was selected for random forest and gradient boosting (GB)-based boosting models. To predict the optimized WQ, we selected pH, SS, water

System Dynamics Modeling for Estimating the Locations of Road Icing Using GIS
Seok Bum Hong, Byung-Woong Lee, Chang-Hoon Kim, Hong‐Sik Yun
SJR Q2Applied SciencesOA

Road icing can cause large traffic accidents on highways because, unlike snowy roads, its location is difficult to identify and it can occur rapidly, even during rainy weather. In this study, the amount and location of road icing were modeled and simulated over time based on the system dynamics theory. The simulation is expressed on the geographic information system (GIS) and facilitates advance detection of the location and amount of road icing that occurs unexpectedly unlike previous studies.

Precision geoid determination by spherical FFT in and around the Korean peninsula
H. S. Yun
SJR Q1Earth Planets and SpaceOA

This paper deals with the precision geoid determination by a gravimetric solution in and around the Korean peninsula. A number of data files were compiled for this work, containing now more than 69,900 point gravity data on land and ocean areas. The EGM96 global geopotential model to degree 360 was used in order to determine the long wavelength effect of the geoid surface. By applying the remove-restore technique the geoid undulations were determined by combining a geopotential model, mean free-

Marker-Based Structural Displacement Measurement Models with Camera Movement Error Correction Using Image Matching and Anomaly Detection
Jisung Kim, Youngdo Jeong, Hyojin Lee, Hong‐Sik Yun
SJR Q1SensorsOA

To prevent collapse accidents at construction sites, the marker-based displacement measurement method was developed. However, it has difficulty in obtaining accurate measurements at long distances (>50 m) in an outdoor environment because of camera movements. To overcome this problem, marker-based structural displacement measurement models using image matching and anomaly detection were designed in this study. Then, the performance of each model in terms of camera movement error correction was v

Green Trade and Cultural Innovation: Examining the Impact on GTFP and Greenhouse Gas Emissions in OECD Countries
Nyunbae Park, H. S. Yun, Chang Hwan Choi
SJR Q1SustainabilityOA

This study investigates the impact of green trade exports (GTE) on green total factor productivity (GTFP) and environmental sustainability in OECD countries using panel data from 2003 to 2016. We employ linear regression models, polynomial models, and threshold regression techniques to analyze this relationship. Our findings reveal an inverted N-shaped curve between GTE and GTFP, with two turning points. The threshold regression results indicate that when clean energy is below 8.660%, a 1 unit i

Comparative Analysis of Ultrasonic and Traditional Gas-Leak Detection Systems in the Process Industries: A Monte Carlo Approach
Joon Hyuk Lee, Youngsik Kim, I.J. Kim, Seok Bum Hong, Hong Sik Yun
SJR Q2ProcessesOA

Gas leaks can cause disasters at process sites, including fires and explosions, and thus, effective gas-leak detection systems are required. This study investigated the limitations of conventional detectors and introduced an innovative ultrasonic sensor-based approach for continuous monitoring. A new configuration for a stationary remote ultrasonic gas-leak monitoring system is proposed. The selected material was 1-Butene. The detection probability was assessed through a simulation based on a ga

SJR Q1HeliyonOA

Outdoor pipeline leaks are difficult to accurately measure using existing concentration measurement systems installed in petrochemical plants owing to external air currents. Besides, leak detection is only possible for a specific gas. The purpose of this study was to develop an image/ultrasonic convergence camera system that incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) to improve pipe leak detection and establish a real-time monitoring system. Our system includes an advanced ultrasonic camera coupl
