Professor Hye Won Jeon's research lab specializes in reproductive medicine and regenerative biology, focusing on the biological properties of stem cells derived from Wharton’s jelly and their potential in tissue engineering and regenerative therapies. The lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying gynecological pathologies such as endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and endometrial carcinoma, with particular emphasis on miRNA profiling and biomarker discovery. Clinical research is also a key component, exploring predictive imaging markers for surgical intervention in hemoperitoneum and assessing the impact of endometriosis on pregnancy outcomes.

15Wharton's jelly is not only one of the most promising tissue sources for mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) but also a source of natural growth factors. To prove that we can get both natural growth factors and MSCs from Wharton's jelly, we compared cellular characteristics and the level of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) from samples using the explant culture method to those derived from the traditional enzymatic culture method. The levels of bFGF were 27.0 ± 11.7 ng/g on day 3, 15.6 ± 11.1 ng/
Most cases of ruptured ovarian cysts with hemoperitoneum can be managed conservatively. A low diastolic blood pressure and a large amount of hemoperitoneum suggest the need for surgical intervention.
This study aimed to identify the candidate miRNAs in the carcinogenesis of endometrial carcinoma, and to explore whether FFPE material would be suitable for miRNA profiling. We identified the differences between miRNA expression profiles using human miRNA microarray in endometrioid endometrial adenocarcinomas (EECs) and normal endometria. Of those tested, miR-200a*, miR-200b*, miR-141, miR-182, and miR-205 were greatly enriched. The expressions of these five miRNAs were validated using quantitat
The presence of active bleeding and the hemoperitoneum depth on a pretreatment CT scan can be predictive warning signs of surgery for a patient with a ruptured corpus luteal cyst with hemoperitoneum.
Vulvar hematomas are uncommon outside of the obstetric population and may be the result of trauma to the perineum. Vulvar hematomas most often present with low abdominal pain and urologic and neurologic symptoms. The vulva has rich vascularization that is supplied by the pudendal artery, a branch of the anterior division of the internal iliac artery. We describe a rare case of a 15-cm-sized vulvar hematoma with the suggested rupture of a pseudoaneurysm of the left pudendal artery without trauma
Endometriosis is a major cause of infertility, and considering its pathophysiology, it is expected to affect pregnancy outcomes as well. This study aimed to evaluate whether endometriosis is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes after successful conception. Data from singleton pregnancy deliveries between January 2014 and October 2019 were obtained from the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service database. We compared the clinical characteristics and adverse pregnancy outcomes
Thickened pedicles with ancillary findings including a whirl sign, a navel sign, and uterine deviation facing thickened pedicles could be helpful for the diagnosis of adnexal torsion.
Maternal concentrations of d-dimer were significantly elevated in patients with severe features than those without severe features among those with GHD. Some pregnant women with GHD can have markedly elevated concentrations of d-dimer without any evidence of current VTE.
BACKGROUND/AIM: We aimed to investigate the prognostic value of biomarkers [Ki-67, adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette sub-family B member 1 (ABCB1), adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette sub-family C member 1 (ABCC1), adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette sub-family C member 2 (ABCC2), p53, cyclin E and v-akt murine thymoma viral oncogene homolog 2 (AKT2)] in patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The levels of expression of biomarkers in tumor ti
Metformin treatment seems to be effective for the improvement of menstrual cyclicity irrespective of insulin resistance in women with PCOS. When metformin related adverse effect occurred, pioglitazone would be effective for aiding the resumption of the menstrual cycle.
In patients with node-positive, early-stage cervical cancer, high LNR was associated with a significantly higher disease recurrence rate. This relationship was further consolidated among patients who received MIS RH.
The high-moisture extrusion process is widely used in the plant-based meat industry to produce meat analogs. However, new technologies are still being developed to mimic the diverse structural characteristics of meat. Therefore, in this study, we explored the potential of mechanical stretching combined with vacuum-autoclaving for the production of wheat gluten (WG)-pea protein isolate (PPI)-based meat analogs. Doughs were prepared using varying WG-PPI ratios and the effects of stretching and vac
This study aimed to investigate the impact of adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) on survival outcomes in patients with intermediate-risk, early-stage cervical cancer who underwent radical hysterectomy (RH). From the cervical cancer cohorts of two tertiary hospitals, patients with 2009 FIGO stage IB-IIA who underwent primary RH between 2010 and 2018 were identified. Patients with intermediate-risk factors that met the Sedlis criteria were included. Survival outcomes were compared between the patients who
During the first trimester of pregnancy, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) >2.5 mIU/L has been suggested as the universal criterion for subclinical hypothyroidism. However, TSH levels change continuously during pregnancy, even in the first trimester. Therefore the use of a fixed cut-off value for TSH may result in a different diagnosis rate of subclinical hypothyroidism according to gestational age. The objective of this study was to obtain the normal reference range of TSH during the first trim
