Professor Hye Won Kook's research lab focuses on hematological malignancies, with a particular emphasis on understanding the genetic and immunological mechanisms underlying acute lymphoblastic leukemia, primary central nervous system lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. The lab employs advanced genomic technologies such as next-generation sequencing and single-cell RNA sequencing to dissect disease pathogenesis, identify novel therapeutic targets, and develop sensitive minimal residual disease monitoring tools. A key focus is on therapy-related and high-risk leukemias, as well as the role of cytotoxic CD4+ T cells in antitumor immunity, aiming to improve prognosis and treatment strategies for elderly and high-risk patients.

Our highly sensitive and accurate NGS-MRD panel can be readily used to monitor most AML patients in clinical practice, including patients without gene rearrangement. In addition, this NGS-MRD panel may allow the detection of newly emerging clones during clinical relapse, leading to more reliable prognoses of AML.

The demographics of Korean patients with POEMS syndrome were similar to those reported previously. Because of the introduction of new treatment agents and the reduced rate of transplant-related mortality related to ASCT, the treatment outcomes of Korean patients with POEMS syndrome have improved in recent years.
