Professor Hyeon Jeong Oh's research lab focuses on environmental and occupational health, with a strong emphasis on the impacts of environmental exposures—such as air pollution, pesticides, and shift work—on chronic diseases and health behaviors. The lab investigates the relationships between risk perception, health behaviors, and physiological outcomes, particularly in vulnerable populations like college students, farmers, and pre-employed firefighters. Key research directions include the epidemiological assessment of environmental risk factors, including particulate matter and pesticide exposure, and their associations with metabolic disorders, sleep quality, and organ function. The lab also explores the role of psychosocial and occupational factors in health outcomes, especially in high-stress or high-exposure occupational groups.

This study provides limited support for the hypothesis that shift work is related to liver enzyme abnormalities, but offers some evidence in favor of the idea that shift work affects female workers more than males on abnormal ALT. Further studies are needed to define the relationship between shift work and abnormal liver enzymes to be carried out as well as the gender difference in the association.
Homocystinuria is a metabolic disorder caused by a deficiency of cystathionine beta-synthase (CBS).
