Professor Hyeongdong Park's research lab specializes in the neural mechanisms underlying self-consciousness and bodily self-awareness, with a focus on how brain networks and physiological states such as respiration influence self-referential processing. The lab investigates cognitive biomarkers in neurological and psychiatric conditions, particularly in the context of neurosurgical interventions, using neuroimaging, EEG, and virtual reality paradigms. A central theme is understanding the neural basis of personality changes following brain surgery, especially in relation to disorders like the Gastaut-Geschwind syndrome and borderline personality features.
