Professor Hyeongu Lee's research lab specializes in microbial biotechnology and oncology, focusing on the isolation and characterization of plant-growth-promoting bacteria from agricultural soils, particularly *Burkholderia* and *Pseudomonas* species, for sustainable crop protection and enhancement. The lab also investigates the clinical impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on colorectal cancer care and evaluates prognostic biomarkers such as the ALBI score in stage III colon cancer patients. Additionally, the lab contributes to mycological discovery by identifying and describing novel fungal species from Korean field soils. These interdisciplinary efforts bridge environmental microbiology, agricultural biotechnology, and clinical oncology.

In this study, two Burkholderia strains, strain KNU17BI2 and strain KNU17BI3, were isolated from maize rhizospheric soil, South Korea. The 16S rRNA gene and multilocus sequence analysis and typing (MLSA-MLST) were used for the identification of the studied strains.
